Ok got it up to 3.6GHz but for some reason whenever I run 3dmark06 it shows my cpu speed back to default @ 2.8GHz.

Yes I turned off Cool&quiet and the power settings in vista is  set to high performance.

Funny thing is it shows 3.6GHz as the speed in 3dmark06 but the scores do not reflect that as it came up to 13k

Ran Prime95 for about 30mins and it passed at 3.6GHz so not sure what funny business is going on...

Prime 95 at 30 mins is nothing.  Yuh now start.  You need to run LinX for at least 10 loops, and
THEN you might be able to say 'it pass'.

I had to do a LOT of tweaks at 3.6 GHz for it to pass LinX.

OCCT now uses linpack for its stress test and produces useful graphs to aid in burning down your pc :P overclocking.

extracted from the first post of the thread linked above.
Quote
You'll find here the current OCCT ToDo-list, and feature that are currently under implementation. I'll try to keep this post updated as much as i can.

You are free to participate and post feature request in this post. Please do so !

Please understand that i won't say yes to everything you ask for. But give it a shot, i have a very strong tendency to listen to what people ask for !

Here's what's planned for OCCT's future :

CPU:LINPACK : Implement HT Support by launching 2 different linpack processes (by cutting memory usage by 2) DONE
GPU:MEMTEST : get GPU:MEMTEST to run on ATI Hardware, somehow.
GPU:3D : Disable the possibility of resizing the Window
GPU:3D : Various efficiency improvement if possible (hotter, harder, better, faster, stronger...) Under Way, but lots of work
POWER SUPPLY : Look into the possibility of making the HD spins, DVD drive spins, well, try to load the Power supply more. This is the lowest priority, as the HDD and DVD drives power consumption is low compared to the GPU and CPU usage (I'd say 2 to 3%, roughly).
MISC : Customize the IDLE time at the beginning and the end of the tests (not a very high priority there as well)
MISC : add a maximum GPU temperature threshold

Your turn !

it should be noted that the highlighted was actually an UPGRADE to the existing linpack test in the occt 3 beta. its been released a while nao so go nuts :D

If you can pass the default then you ok push that bitch moarrrrr

Ok found the culprit, it was pissin AMD Overdrive that was fooling around in the background for some reason so I uninstalled, so now when I launch 3dmark06 it holds the oc in cpu-z.

@ Arcman yes I ran LinX up to 17 out of 20 loops and it had no probs with a problem size of 16000, the prob was just when  I ran 3dmark it was reverting to the default clock. I got it figured out now(I hope)

I was ocing using only the multi at 1.472v on the core and some slight volt bumping on the NB.

I think the max multi is around 18 so other stuff may have to be fiddled with to try to get higher at a stable clock.

@ Neph...lol at burning down your pc, I was using OCCT also but I think LinX is quite badass in kicking the $hite out of your cpu+ram just as much lol

I went to bed around 4am this morning when I realized I can get this thing stable at 3.6GHz, will try to go a lil higher when I get some time again.

Oh and I see that Gigabyte has a new BIOS F4g that supposed to make it pretty easy to unlock the 4th core on these phenoms. I currently have F4a bios installed.

Ok couple of updates, here's the cpu getting through 20 passes of LinX @3.6GHz

Got an updated 3dmark06 Score at 3.6GHz 16k  :happy0203:

And thirdly with this new Bios update F4g the 4th core was easily unlocked, stress testing it to see if it's stable at stock speed.

Oh SWEET!!!  Its a shame my MSI board can't do that.
GJ on the OC.  You are now a hardcore tech-peong, aka, 'enthusiast'.

...and yes, the max multiplier for most X3s (on air at least) seems to be 18x.
Anything more than that requires more voltage, and more elaborate cooling,
although I'm seeing people around the web getting 3.7 and 3.8 GHz on air.
I guess its possible if your rig is in a room with truly FRIGID aircon.

Ok just a lil update with for the 3DMarkVantage thread

same hardware but with my everyday  OC gives me a 3DMarkVantage score of 12127  :happy0203:

MOBO: Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P
CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE @3.2Ghz
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 260 core 216 896MB @ 626MHz/1053MHz/1350Mhz
RAM: 4GB OCZ Reaper DDR3 @ 1066MHz

Almost was a pain in the arse to fit those windows properly on my stinking 19inch lcd......   :shakehead:

Ok, got some new parts and still dialing it in as it's my first real dabble into intel chips

Got an i5 2500K

Cooler Master 690 II advanced case

An Asus Sabertooth P67 Mobo

Running my 8gigs of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 ram

Got a Corsair H750 PSU to power it all

Still running the Velociraptor 10,000 rpm HDD

3dmark seems to be messing up but I got P19898 marks on Vantage

Thanks man!! You've developed quite a monster yourself that is making beastly scores!!!

I'll try to take some pics to show off the setup. I think it's the neatest I have ever had the inside of a case (note I said I lol)
