'Terrorist' too stupid to spell 'Google'That is what his mates sayBy Nick Farrell: Friday, 04 July 2008, 9:19 AMClick here to find out more!A BLOKE ACCUSED of leading a terrorist group was a bit dim and lacked the computer skills with which he has been attributed, an Aussie court was told.Algerian-born Abdul Nacer Benbrika, 48, who is also known to his associates as 'Abu Bakr' and 'Sheikh', is charged with directing the activities of a terrorist organisation and other terrorism-related charges.However his lawyer Remy Van de Wiel, QC, told the court his client was a man who lacked worldliness and certain basic knowledge.Apparently he was so daft he thought it was possible drive to Tasmania, Mr Van de Wiel said.For a terrorist mastermind who was at the centre of a computer-driven nest of activity, Benbrika showed no signs of IT literacy or a knowledge of what was happening in the terrorist field. He didn't know about the bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta in 2004, for example.Benbrika also "can't spell Google", his lawyer said.Van de Wiel also pointed the jury to an interview conducted with Benbrika on ABC Television as evidence of his client's inflated view of himself. Benbrika had insisted that the station air the entire two-hour interview uncut.Van de Wiel asked that if Benbrika was genuinely involved in a terrorist organisation would he go on national television and say the sort of things he said?
