Error Message (CMOS checksum error)

what does this error mean,(CMOS checksum error) I looked it up on Google, and it basically says there could be a problem with my CMOS battery Could be dead. it's my wife's PC, it wont boot to windows, after I turn it on, I get one beep, then the error comes up. an thats it. no windows or anything, can't even use the keyboard to get into the bios.

the cmos battery thing is just one possible cause..

i say find out the motherboard model, get the bios for the motherboard, flash it and try again..

A simple "restore manufacturer defaults" could fix you right up.

CMOS checksum error usually mean the CMOS battery is low or dead. I'm sure the the date and time, if you can check it, is wrong.

A new battery should do the trick:

Ask for a CR2032 battery in any electronics store. Pay no more than $20 - $30. Or just take one out from any other motherboard and use that.

Although the BIOS flash is an absolute last resort.  Especially if it was working all the time.

I had that problem before, changed the battery and pc worked fine after that. As those before said, flash bios as a LAST resort.

OK thanks for all the good responses, I'll let know how things turn out, by Monday ( it's Saturday night all the  stores are close till Monday)

Ok I got a battery, installed it, but the PC still had the same error. so I dug deeper. My wife had told me she smelt a burning smell form the PC, all along it was the Video card. the person who worked on my PC ( I was out the country) did not seat the card properly, so something touched an the card arced. I checked the contacts it was black.
use some alcohol cleaned out the contacted. and thats all she wrote, works like a charm now

Ent!?  Its a wonder the card still works.  Don't be surprised when (not if) it fails outright.
