Oh Nvidia, those conniving bastards. They release info on this card and simultaneously drop the price of the
'old' 9800 GTX to $199 US just to trump the 4850. A master stroke? Debatable. Good for consumers? Absolutely.
The 'battle' is now squarely joined at the 199-250 US price point. What makes things a whole lot more interesting is
that all Nvidia GPUs from the 9800 series and on can now take advantage of PhysX, on-GPU physics processing.
Based on preliminary results, the 9800 GTX+ is significantly faster than the 4850 as is, and with PhysX enabled,
overall system performance is even faster as well.
Will people pay the extra 30 US for that? Oh hell yes...but then, we haven't seen the 4870 performance numbers as yet,
so only time will tell.
GPU gods...show me the way.
