Don't you just love Taiwan? :)  Gigabyte is almost ready to unleash P45 goodness upon the world.

Yep...thats the high-end DQ6 model.

Behold the (not too distant) future... :awesome:

I read about this board when it first surfaced. 4 lan ports is well...uhhh...4 what?

Also, I read that the p45 will require a much much higher level of skill and patience to overclock cpu's to the max, not unlike with x38 and x48. Apparently it all has to do with the limits of the FSB being reached and the need to adjust little t hings like (I cant remember the tech names for them) but very minute and specific voltages to the CPU as well as measuring those volltages carefully not only using the bios utility but by actually sticking a multimeter on various points on the board. Failure to align the frequency and voltages can result in instant toasted cpu's. How's that for an expensive meal.

lol @ expensive meal

As for the 4 lan ports. I typically installed a second nic in one of my PCs for it to act as a firewall. A third, to route and manage wireless traffic. For a total of three nics in use, never had to use four though.

...interesting tho! i must try to use the second NIC on my MoBo for firewall.

But cap'n, using a multimeter to prod for voltages can be fun for the uber-tinkering sould. haha

Noob, can you create a thread detailing how you go about doing that...for the benefit of the gattdom.

Also, WTMC @ dani's avatar.

Quoted from the article:

Quote
At nearly the top of Gigabyte's P45 lineup, the DQ6 is the picture of excess, boasting a ridiculous four Gigabit Ethernet ports.
The ports can be used individually—each is backed by one of Realtek's new RTL8111C GigE chips—or they can be teamed together should you require obscene amounts of network bandwidth.

Nice...but still...a whole 4 ports boy?  I would like to see a practical application of this.

I really cheap office firewall XD There are tonnes of linux/unix based firewalls out there that could use a on board 4 port mobo. Only thing is this mobo WON'T be cheap, so ah well XD. Maybe an EXPENSIVE DO IT URSELF office firewall.
