hmm, that 24 has better res and contrast than the 22

also, the 22 is listed as deactivated on newegg. Maybe due to a product refresh. See here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096

The 24 costs considerably more but it looks the better of the two specs wise and real estate wise.

Can't go for broke with the 26"??

On a side note, could someone explain why on earth anyone would buy this monitor

SAMSUNG XL24 Black 24" 8ms(GTG) Widescreen LED backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 1000:1 - Retail

for us$2229.00??

Hoping newegg made a typo there. That price is just ridiculous. Can you imagine the beast of a machine you could put together for that money with enough change for the Acer we all know and love? Granted the Acer is TN but still, that price is just ludicrous.

Oh and a pictorial of the elusive "Source" button on the samsung. A convenience I think one should be afforded after plopping down US$500+ on a flat panel!

Been playing around with a Soyo 24" 1920x1200 monitor and some 1080p content (1920x1080). You can really tell the difference.

Granted, it's a PC monitor so I'm naturally much closer to the screen than say the TV outside. The resolution is fantastic for PC applications. No doubt and that alone would make it worth the extra $$.

Also, running games in lower res still looks great without the performance degradation of pushing max res.

The pundits are right though because when laying on the bed and watching footage from a good distance away, it's difficult to see any improvement over 720p.

Just for confirmation.

The Samsung for over 2 grand is an OLED display, hence the price.

I still think the better option is the HannsG. I have practical experience with the thing, it huggeee, great reviews, no problems whatsoever that I have encountered and even better right now it's $500 on newegg. If I was in the market for a monitor, that one would be it. But hey, its yours to spend.

I dunno awesome, those Quality Control issues on the HannsG still seem pretty scary to me.

If you get a flawless unit, it's great, no doubt as by your account. However, If you luck out and get a DOA or dead pixel unit like the Soyo (see attached pix), you're stuck with a flawed US$500.00 panel.

Not exactly chump change.

If I were in the USA and could RMA for cheap, definitely the HannsG!

If I'm in the caribbean and RMA isn't really an option, I'd look for something with better QC. (The samsung) Not to mention the source select button and superior connection options (DVI/HDMI/Analog vs HDMI/Analog)

Ummm...actually that Samsung 245BW does not have HDMI, only DVI/VGA as opposed to the Hannsg that has HDMI and Vga.

Still, I don't know about the supposed QC issues. Yes i've seen a couple bad reports on Newegg but the good FAR outnumbers the bad. I mean, there's no perfect product as there are a couple people who recieved doa samsung units.. Also, there are very little people complaining about dead pixels too. N00b, you're a bit paranoid.

rofl @ paranoid. nah man awesome, you know I take your advice on these sort of issues, but remember, I real all 400+ reviews on newegg. Many good reviews also said they got bad units and had to rma.

Also, the samsung I am talking about is the 26" ver, that has all the connections I spoke off. Not the 24" ver you quoted.

lol, yeah boy. That is one huge understated advantage of these big screens. What were once tiny heads in the distance on a 17" screen become much easier targets on a 24" monster.

Nice link for the CoD 4 sweatage.

i know this tread has been dead for almost a month now, but after doing some EXTENSIVE research, i can across a site that might be of interest to anyone looking to purchase a new monitor. the site is http://detail.zol.com.cn/. the site is in Chinese though, but the guys there took it upon themselves to post numerous pics of the monitors they have available for our viewing pleasure. pics of the screens up and running, displaying pictures, movies and games. this is good as you can see the image quality of the screens before dishing out the paper. here's the pics for.....

The Acer P243W: http://detail.zol.com.cn/129/128774/pic.shtml
Samsung 2493HM: http://detail.zol.com.cn/135/134935/pic.shtml
BenQ G2400W (i'm getting this one): http://detail.zol.com.cn/121/120539/pic.shtml

hope this helps with someone's decision.
