nice angle.

Didn't think of that.

What's the price delta going from that 28" 16:10 monitor to a 32" 16:9 TV?

Looks like we're heading into W1ntry's 42" LCD in the bedroom dream territory, lol

Hey I'll have you know I have a 32" HDTV on my desk aka in my room and I can't think of going back :p you'll THANK ME LATER. Go with the HDTV XD

WTF?! how close do you sit to that beast?!

that is a nice idea, once it can be connected to the PC (HDMI to DVI-D), i would mount that against a wall, and BlueTooth connect my mouse/keyboard on the couch -> Home Theatre setup right der!

lol, 28 to 32 is just another 4" boy win and looking at the prices online, omg.

US$800.00

That's taking me a far cry away from that initial US$225 for the 22" Acer.

Too rich for my blood. The 28" @ US$550.00 was already a big stretch. Like, eat crix and cheese for a month kind of stretch, lol (no offense crixx)

lol @ eat crix.

Yeah you're right on the 32 being not much bigger than the 28, but its bigger nonetheless.

But if the price of a 32" tv is $800 and a 28" monitor is $550 (sometimes $500 on newegg), the monitor wins.

Check newegg too, there are 32 inchers tv's for like $600, not the best of quality but they get the job done.

here ya go!...and not too compromising on quality either. There are the usual drawbacks like not enough inputs, doesnt massage your feet and doesnt set itself up and its not a 52", but for that price, what the heck.

I'd probably still be more inclined to go the 28" monitor route for the high resolution if nothing else.

What price you saw the samsung for rage??

That vid hype is alright but again, they are quoting 2ms which is surely GTG and not BTB.

Also, that 3000:1 ratio is certainly dynamic and not the true contrast ratio. Take with two heaping teaspoonfuls of salt. lol

Samsung is a strong brand in LCD, so that's not saying the unit is crap, just saying the video touted the PR figures rather than the more pertinent facts.

i could only find an open box version of the 226BW on Newegg for $269.99 and on Amazon for $329.99. i'm not getting excited for this monitor from the vid i post, but from the number of excellent reviews i've see around the net.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/displays/review/2007/03/09/Samsung-SyncMaster-226BW/p1

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/03/15/Samsung_226BW/4

the main problem when buying this monitor is that there are 3 different models of it on the market ("S","A","C" Panels). the "C" stands for China, the "A" stands for Mexico, and the "S" stands for South Korea. apparently the "S" panels are the best all around, while the "A" and "C" panel reportedly suffer from a backlighting problem and poor color accuracy respectively. i for one intended to buy it in Trinidad just to insure that I get the "S" panel. it will cost me over $4000 to do so, but it IS the best that i've seen thus far in the 22" range. has anyone even seen 1 professional review on the Acer 24"? if u have, can u put up the link?

wow, that's pricey for a 24".

lol @ A standing for Mexico. Someone failed the alphabet there.

Considering the 22" lands for under TT$2000.00 it seems preposterous to pay TT$4000.00 for 2 inches more.

Infact, for TT$4000.00 you could get that 28" Beast the captain posted earlier in this thread.

Yeah el capitan, the 1080p is for PC resolution. 720p res is like 1024x768 in regular PC res speak. The 1080p is more akin to 1600x1200. Remember, primary use is as a PC display (for games, etc...) and given the fact that its in the bedroom, the viewing distance is gonna be very close. Close enough to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p.

think I'm off base or no? You've got the two units under one roof to better compare.

Of course you're gonna see a big difference between a tv and a monitor for normal pc usage. But when it comes to viewing video, there shouldnt be much of a difference when viewing high def content on either display.

As a side note, just took in an episode of CSI Miami 720p on the 28". OMFG!!

Good point.

Since PC usage is by far the primary purpose of this screen (CoD4, Dawn of War, et al) I'll go the monitor route.

Next Gen Console  (most likely PS3 when Soul Calibur IV drops) and Video viewing secondary.

Now to justify that US$550.00. (buys 10 family size bags of crix and bands belly)

Well I've been reading till my eyes bleed about that Hanns 28"

Seems there are a lot of issues with QC. Dead pixels galore. Not a problem if you're living in the states and can just check it out in the store before taking it home, or easily returning it if they develop shortly after purchasing.

Definitely a big issue if you're shipping it across the atlantic to a little caribbean island. lol

Also, seems the monitor doesn't have native DVI, which means you'll have to be switching inputs manually to go from PS3 to PC since they'll both be using the HDMI interface. The latter with a converter obviously.

There is a new model, 289 (as opposed to the 281) that comes with dual HDMI inputs and an improved menu. Only available at BestBuy at the moment and even there its on backorder.

Adding insult to that injury, you've got to select inputs via a messy OSD. Not a one button source selector.

Enter the Samsung

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001264

26" though, so it's a little smaller, but fixes all of the issues mentioned above.

Higher QC from reports online, has a button for source selection and comes with native DVI for hooking up your PC in addition to the HDMI inputs (for your next gen consoles).

At a glance the only disadvantage is it's rated at 5ms as opposed to the Hanns 3ms.

What sayeth though? Worthy contender to the throne?

Correct on the lack of input count. Not many options connectivity wise. Of course, if you're considering connecting an xbox and other things to it, then that is a big problem.

If you want a monitor strictly for a pc though, well it works well for that.

As for qc issues with the hannsg...I wont go as far as to say its downright propaganda, but i'd say its more like propaganda. You see, the people have spoken. Nearly 90% of (newegg) reviewers have reported a good/excellent experience with the unit (hanns). I mean I inspected the thing from top to bottom for at least an hour searching for dead/stuck pixels. Not one to be found.

At the end of the day, its what you're more comfortable with. If you wanna pay more for the "peace of mind?" that the samsung name offers and get a smaller screen with ONE more input, nice.

Or you can go with the underdog and hope you dont get a 20"'s of dead pixels.

I got the dead pixel problem from  reading all 300 reviews on newegg for the unit. lol

That highlighted dead pixels and QC woes (units dying and some even doa). Many of those very 5 star reviews on newegg mentioned that the first unit they got had dead pixels which they returned for another. Once they got one without said dead pixels the monitor was so impressive with the real estate for the price that they gave it 5 out of 5 eggs.

No doubt it's a damn good choice if you get a perfect unit, even better if you get the updated model with two HDMIs.

I'm not gonna be so lucky to return it for a replacement so the QC is a bit of a concern.

Here is another player, a 28" Viewsonic. I'd almost say Hanns made this for 'em because the specs are near identical. No DVI either and also a TN panel. For US$50 more you get the viewsonic brand (and hopefully a better QC process)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116084

Reading more on the DVI issue, it is said that you lose a lot of the scaling options if you don't use that native connector for the PC. As well as run into some "sleep" issues.

The viewsonic issued a firmware update and a revised model to fix that. The Hanns still has it as a problem.

Samsung looking like the money yes.
