An Iphone is resurrectedJesus phone rises from the deadBy Egan Orion: Monday, 05 May 2008, 11:31 AMIN A BRIEF POST Saturday at the US progressive website Daily Kos, the writer who goes by Scout Finch* tells "the tale of one tough little Iphone."While traveling on business for several days, she was delighted to see that one of the hotels along the way had a laundry room. Since there was only a single washing machine available and she knew her co-workers would be checking in right behind her, she ran to her room and threw a load of laundry in the wash. Then, thinking to call her co-workers, she found that her Iphone was missing."I felt a sickness in my stomach and I knew... my Iphone was in the washer. I've never run so fast in a pair of flip-flops in my life. I reached the washer, tossed open the lid, and saw the pants in question with a steady stream of water beating them down. Sure enough, the phone was in the pocket and completely submerged. The horror!"The phone was waterlogged. She shook most of the water out but it was still wet, so she attempted to dry it out on her room's air conditioner vent for 16 hours, turning it occasionally. Then, quite curious and impatient, she hopefully plugged it in and turned it on. It powered up, but there was still water showing behind the screen and it wasn't working normally, so she quickly turned it off.Still hopeful, she baked the Iphone on top of her car's dashboard for a day. A friend suggested placing it in rice to help absorb water, and she did that too. When she tried to power up the phone again, it didn't. Not even a flicker of life."Distraught, I made an appointment for the Genius Bar at the Apple Store back home and tossed it in my bag for the last two days of the trip."Inconvenienced by lack of a cellphone, she finally returned home at the end of her business travels."Still feeling defeated, I went directly from the airport to the Apple Store... expecting to hear the worst. After all, I hadn't been able to get any response or a hint of a pulse for days. The young Apple tech reached over, plugged it in and lo and behold... it was working! There was my graphic... my contacts... my calendar... my photos!"The Apple techie was amazed to see that her Iphone was working again. They tested all the features and immediately backed up all its data to her Macbook. We conjecture that a couple of more days in a travel bag, riding around in the heat of a car's boot, along with the extremely dry air inside the plane she took home, evaporated the last vestiges of water that remained inside her Iphone."So, let that be a lesson to all of you cell phone users out there... and Iphone users in particular. Never give up hope if your iPhone has been submerged. Exhibit patience. Get creative. Try the rice."To which we might add, go ahead and do all that, but then also give it a couple more days tucked into a very dry place, and maybe take an airplane flight with the previously submerged device nestled inside your carry-on bag.
