Disabling the restore option in Firefox 2
« on: April 28, 2008, 05:14:38 PM »
I know they mean well, but more often than not I find the restore option in firefox a nuisance.

Wished they include a "never ask me this again" checkbox, but they didn't.

Luckily there is a way to disable this prompt.

For others who feel similarly see below:

Disabling the restore option in Firefox 2

   1. Open Firefox
   2. Type: "about:config" in address bar ( withot quotes biggrin.gif )
   3. Search for "browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash" in the list
   4. double click on that field and set that to "false"

i love that feature!
Whenever I have an install to reboot from, or an update or sum I purposely crash it so it would give me that prompt.
To each his own i suppose.

They should give a session save option or sum...hmm...*digs*

For real @ nice feature. Although it works for me, even after a normal reboot, (read just a simple close and not crash).

The nice thing about the feature too is that it restores the page you were on and all the pages you were on before your current page, and it does that for all tabs.

ent, it's a great feature, no doubt.

I've had many nightmarish explorer crashes and losing my hard found location in cyberspace. Hunting through history for the link thereafter.

My grouse here is with the implementation. I have no probs with mozilla starting firefox and then allowing me to choose to restore the previous session. A simple button somewhere on the toolbar instead of the "ominous prompt"

It gives the impression that something went wrong every time I re-open firefox.

well you know firefox turning me out to be a liar.

I re-enable the option and now when I close and re-open, it isn't prompting.

But before (and I swear) it was prompting me all the time, whether there was a crash or not. mcmcmc

I'll leave it on again and monitor the situation.

You need Maxthon.  It has features, customization, and versatility that put Firefox to shame. For example, when you shut down Maxthon--and you don't have to crash it--you have a choice for the next time you run it of returning to the same array of tabs that are open when you close it, or to a list of those tabs so you can pick and choose which one you want to be open, or you can open to the home page, or you can open to no tabs open at all, or open a selected favorite folder.  You can also tell Maxthon to reopen as soon as it closed, or you can tell it not to bother you with all these choses when you close it.

And this is just one of the small clever things built into Maxthon. (You don't have to make the changes as you do with Firefox just to get one of these to work.)  Give it a try. Maxthon has a lot of other things to like.

Oh hell yes.  Everytime you use the browser, you are actively using these features.

Once you go Maxthon, you won't go back.

lol, I was a big maxthon fan. Been using that since it was called MyIE2. Really awesome browser.

Haven't used it in a while though. Firefox + the DownThemAll extension has been cutting the mustard (save for this recent niggling restore session issue which only started with Firefox 2.0)

I'll give maxthon a try again. Thanks for the heads up.

in my lookups i'll say i agree with arc when he said ff is for girls...this thing have allota sh1t qui!
This thing comes with features that you have to get for firefox via plugins, no script and adblock, for example...didn't dig to much but those 2 alone sold it for me, no more waiting for 10s of my life top pass waiting for an upgrade no sir! plus it's 'no script' lets you choose in more detail and much easier the things you wanna load - flash, shockwave, java, activex etc -

plus it free so is just a matter of choice, i with firefox, but for now, next wipe ill go max, i dune gone and customize the crap outta this thing...

That's not true... I was a Maxthon believer... in fact I posted about it here on gatt more than once... maybe even some of you are now using after my guidance... however I have not used it in ages... although it's on all my systems... I just use fireferret... Maxthon is great though...

I've been looking for a new browser as well. How much system memory does Maxthon take up when in use?
Does it run in the background when not in use, taking up memory?
Also does it have the save password/ master password feature that firefox has?

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.
