"Microsoft today dropped a limitation from Windows 7 Starter, the edition expected to ship on most netbooks, that would have blocked users from running more than three applications at the same time."

Windows 7 goes on sale October 22nd
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/02/windows-7-goes-on-sale-october-22nd/
We knew good and well the next iteration of Windows would be generally available this fall, but now we've a date to circle in our datebooks: October 22nd. Yep, the fourth Thursday in the tenth month of this year will mark the first date in which you -- the general consumer -- can purchase Win7, which gives you plenty of time to figure out which of the 94 variants will suit you best. Have fun!

A blurb on the improved resource monitor in windows 7. Lovin' it.
Finally can point a finger to which app is thrashing the disk without going through hoops. Very slick interface.
Want to know what's going on under the hood of windows? Resource Monitor is your app.

Hey Cap't, I'm curious about the punkbuster problem that you refer to, as I've been running on the 7100 build about 3 weeks now and have been aable to play COD4 and UT3 (legit versions) without being kicked off servers for pb support.
Also if you're using a creative card, i've foung that the vista drivers work a bit better than the Win 7 beta drivers...for now.

Yeah, I can play online with Windows 7 as well. I think you may have to update PB manually,
but knowing you, that was already tried.

Yeah I did many a manual update through pbsetup from evenbalance. I havent tried of late though on account of the fact that my Creative sound card still doesnt work and I simply can't disrespect my lovely Z2300's by using *gasp* onboard sound. I may fold and just get a new damn soundcard oui.

To end my sound woes, i'm thinking of getting
this beauty of a sound card
. There's even a beta driver for it on the win7 platform to take out all the guesswork.

All of a sudden, on-board sound is a cussword now?
Still, that soundcard IS rather epic win-ish.

Yes it does, but you also dont get tone adjustments with onboard sound, whichis an absolute must have for me, even when using normal headphones.

Those onboard equalisers are a joke. The second you increase the bass level an inch, there's distortion and the same goes for the treble.

That 'solution' doesnt sit too well with me. What happens when you can use winamp for whatever reason. What if you're playing a game, you're back to the old flat dry sound.
Now its up to Amazon to not stick.
