it will use windows vista's shell and should function like server 2008 all in all it should be quite better than current vista (vista sp2=win 7)

So the Beta release 7000 of windows 7 has been available for acquisition. Most reports are that its performance is greater than that of Vista. here is a basic overview of the performance and new features found. I've gotten my hands on the beta and installed it in a virtual machine, but as you know, you cannot really assess performance accurately from within a virtual machine, therefore i'll be waiting for a 64bit version to surface so that I can run it on native hardware.

If this thing is as good as they say it is, I just might make this my first OS purchase in nearly 10 years!

64 bit version is out. The leaked version is the same one that will be released as the public beta later today. My copy already fell out of the truck and has made its way onto my machine. Will report later on its performance.

Must have an apple envy complex or something. I can't remember which version of OS X actually IMPROVED performance on the existing hardware over it's predecessor.

Ahh boy, beta keys have finally become available...somewhat. Its a luck of the draw thing to get one right about now. Activated my copy, running happily. I DID get IMMENCE pressure to install GTA4 but after much much tribulations, I was successful. Performance wise, i'm stumped. For a beta, this thing runs almost like a final OS!

damn! looks like i missed out on the opportunity to get my license key :S

...the page goes to a 'cannot locate address' after i select the 32bit English version of the OS to DL.

anyone have any clues? I'd love to give this a test drive.

Probably Microsoft's servers are still hammered. After all, I think this is the hottest beta os release in history. Keep trying. There's always other methods of 'aquisition' though.

Thought so to, Microsoft should give the vista supporter a discount if windows 7 is there new flagship OS.
