Waaaaay...and as of this post my ONE iso still have 20 mins to go.
I need internet like that yes.  Seriously.

...and Cap'n, we just want to try it out too.  I don't use any Creative sound cards,
so I won't have any issues.

AMD releases Windows 7 graphics driver
WHQL are you
By Nick Farrell
Wednesday, 6 May 2009, 10:10

AMD HAS ANNOUNCED that its video graphics driver for Windows 7 has received Windows Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL) certification.

This means that punters who run Windows and own ATI Radeon HD 2000, HD 3000, and HD 4000 series products using the ATI Catalyst software suite can be 100 percent Windows 7 ready, if they want to be.

The Microsoft WHQL certified graphics drivers for Windows 7 are found here and a fully unified WHQL-certified driver supporting Windows Vista and Windows 7 is planned for the release of ATI Catalyst 9.5 later in May.

Apparently AMD is feeling particularly smug after the Vole approved its drivers on the first day of testing

Nope you're not missing anything capn, a video driver WHQL cert ain't gonna help your sound woes, the post was for general knowledge as I am unaware as to any gaming issues you may have had during your previous testing. Didn't you mention something about DX issue with 3DMark or something?

A big 'uh oh' for XP Mode.  It seems there are some CPUs that wont support it.

Here are two articles on the subject pertaining to Intel and AMD CPUs.

Off the top of my head, in the Intel camp, desktop cpu's like the E4xxx. All others since most likely support VT. As the article said, the most problem are with the mobile cpu's, a lot of which dont support it.

Microsoft plans 10 fake 'updates' for Windows 7
Phony fixes will automatically install in test of Windows Update
Gregg Keizer

May 9, 2009 (Computerworld) Microsoft plans to test Windows 7's update mechanism by feeding users of the just-issued Release Candidate as many as 10 fake updates in the coming week, the company said Friday.

It will be the second time that Microsoft has released phony updates for Windows 7; in February, it tested the beta by delivering five bogus patches.

People running Windows 7 RC, which publicly debuted late on May 4, will be offered the mock updates beginning on Tuesday, May 12, said Brandon LeBlanc, a Microsoft spokesman. Microsoft wants to "verify our ability to deliver and manage updating of Windows 7 in certain real-life scenarios," LeBlanc explained in a blog post Friday evening.

As before, the updates do not actually deliver any new features or fixes, but replace existing system files with exact duplicates.

Unlike the February test, however, this time many of the updates will install automatically, according to a second blog entry on the Microsoft Update site. One of the updates will also test a new notification feature, said the update blog. "[It] provides detailed information about available updates that need to be installed manually," Microsoft said. "Windows 7 RC users will be prompted to install this update and provided more information about this feature -- it will not install automatically."

Users will also need to go to Windows Update and manually install the updates that don't install automatically, the update team added.

To decline the test updates, users must set the Windows Update control panel to something other than the recommended "Install updates automatically," then right-click each fake update that appears and select "Hide update" to delete it from the list.

Microsoft has already released one legitimate update for Windows 7 RC. On Thursday, the company pushed a patch for a major bug that had slipped through testing. If left unfixed, the bug can cripple applications or block them installing properly, Microsoft said in a support document.

The fix was delivered through Windows Update starting Thursday. Computers running Windows 7 RC that have Automatic Updates set download and install patches should have already received and installed the bug fix.

Microsoft publicly launched Windows 7 RC last week, several days after it posted the preview on MSDN and TechNet, the company's developer and professional IT subscription services.

Well, I installed the RC on my MSI Wind, and I must say, it greatly exceeded my expectations.

I was prepared for a plethora of bluescreens a quite a bit of headache,
but, shockingly, Windows 7 installed in just under 30 mins, booted,
with the correct screen resolution mind you (1024x600), and all
devices were detected and assigned a driver.  The only thing I had to
update was the on-board bluetooth module.  All other devices worked flawlessly.

Whats immediately amazing is the fact that the Aero theme is running so sleekly
on an integrated Intel graphics chip.  I expected it to really chug.

One 'quirk' I've noticed, is that the CPU usage for Windows Media Player 11
is WAY to high, and I observed this while streaming audio.  Hardly an intensive process,
because VLC ran that same stream without such massive usage numbers.

The only issue I had was that Daemon Tools would not work, but I found a workaround
in no time.

My initial praise of this OS is now magnified by this experience.

M$ = 1    Expectations = 0
