Blue Gene might manage Turing test

Who's a clever boy then?

BOFFINS at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute think they have managed to get Biggish Blue's Blue Gene supercomputer close to passing the Turing test.

For those who came in late, the Turing Test is one of the goals of artificial intelligence and it basically is getting a computer to fool people that it is human.

The boffins want to link their software with a multimedia group who are designing a holodeck much like Star Trek.

The big idea is to build a synthetic character which can operate in the holodeck.

Currently top boffin Selmer Bringsjord, head of Rensselaer's Cognitive Science Department and leader of the research project is stuffing the AI character with facts about its 'history' including family trivia and personal beliefs.

The data has come from a graduate student who is telling everything about himself to build the database.

I first thought to use Star Trek names... but I figured screw it, it would be more fun if we 'real' ppl could use the damn thing!

While I like a win for star trek based science as much as the next Trekkie.

I am left to wonder if this is the wisest decision, a real AI would be borderline human if the design above is any kinda reference.
So how would a growing AI react to being a 'clone' or 'copy' of a real being and not an individual person?
Imagine if you were told that up to a point in your existence you were not even an original, you just get copy and paste, that hard yo.

I all for advance in science, but i think we should leave this whole AI thing alone. Let nature and/or god be the ruling party.

Heh heh heh I know what I would do with a holo-deck but i digress you make an AI that is almost human or can fool people what happens wen you try to delete it can anyone say skynet.
