Deathly Hallows Movies
« on: March 12, 2008, 09:31:45 PM »

Okay I know HBP hasn't even come out yet, but here's some breaking news about the final Potter film.

It's not going to be one, but TWO movies.  :awesome:

One part will be released in November 2010 and the conclusion to be shown in May 2011.

There's word that John Williams will be returning to score it. Steve Kloves will be writing (wrote all but OotP).

So yeah, a whole movie dedicated to the big battle in the end?

Makes sense , the huge number of action scenes in deathly hallows will need time to explore.. usually the serious action only takes place at the end of the novel/movie.

All the characters that die will need individual scenes.

There are also lots of points that could make a good cliffhanger ending for the first movie.

First half WAS boring till you learnt what a hallow was.

I woulda prefered if they made it into just one long film, but i hope this works too. But honestly im not all to excited about this....the book was basically them liming around in a tent and occasionally doing something that ends up bad, it was only toward the ending it pick up pace.... I do hope they put the epilogue on film...and make it abit longer...

I really.......REALLY doubt this will happen.

Goblet of Fire was supposed to be two movies too. Whenever you break a story up into 2 parts with a cliffhanger ending it isnt received well.

You have to remember although POtter is awesome and stuff, the movies appeal to the mass audience.....NOT just the fans....DEFINITELY not just the fans

YOu cut up a movie like that its Reloaded/Revolutions or Kill bill1/2 all over again. Alot of people are not gonna like it, only the fans. In movies, fans are minimal.

There is hardly anything in DH that isn't somewhat important to the plot and they realized a 3hr movie just wouldn't be enough.

Note that Potter fans alone are a massive number of people, so I don't think they have to worry about the success of the films.

yes!!!!! but so did the novel. The novel was 3 parts, the movie was 3 parts.
ONE......out of........? how many. Pirates "2" and "3" did that too.
Crixx i just call 2 movies that did that, both big budget titles, and got mixed responses, thats off the top of my head. . My point....the track record not easy to follow.

the potter fans will make up the first weekend of sales, or even the first week of sales. The budget is in the 190 million dollar range (more or less) and profits are at 250 million or abouts after 20 weeks. So explain the next 19 weeks. This is the mass audience, the "when we have time to go people" which literally means the US population who work day in and out non stop.

Profits in the potter moves dropped with each consecutive movie until Goblet of Fire was released. And note after Chamber of Secrets, especially with Azkaban the movies started to stray in environment and detail from the books, more so than the movies. This was purposely done to appeal to the mass audience.

You also have to note the teen rating of the potter movies meaning that allot of kids gonna be in the cinema, and they dont anticipate kids sitting down for ANY longer than 2 and a half hours...standard rule.

See this is why you dont give technical ppl to make a film :P Its Harry Potter, fans will go to see it REGARDLESS, so that money is a shoe in! Its max profit theyALWAYS worrying about.

By no means i dissin the series. I real love Harry Potter dred. But then again your point could be right. Making 2 movies to stretch the profits. Fans will go to see both anyway, again.

Yuh-huh

That's why it makes sense to split. Not only will it help it's commercial success, It ensures no leaving out stuff/making changes to the plot that will result in a disaster similar to goblet of fire.

The options were a regular length movie (which would be bad), a REALLY long movie (which hardly anyone besides fans would see, because Potter is marketed for kids), or making two movies, which makes sense.

Didn't seem necessary to make a whole new thread for the trailer when one already exists (although it's really old lol).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

Looks pretty good imo. Hopefully it will be the best adaptation yet...I was kinda disappointed with HBP.

Was a bit underwhelmed.

After seeing such boss films of recent, this latest Potter outing just didn't cut the mustard.

It wasn't "bad" but just not great.

I'm really gettin tired of him bumbling his way through to destiny.  You'd think by now he'd have grown a pair and really begun to stick it to the dark lord and his minions.

The show should be called Hermione Granger since she seems to be the only person with a clue.

Honestly. It was the 'prep' for part 2. I took it for what it was. I enjoyed it. Wasn't spectacular. but they got through the crap so they could get to the best parts now. and really focus on it

Well this movie would be a bit on the underwhelming side for the average movie goer, that's the downside over splitting this movie into 2 parts. My sis went and watched it on Wednesday, as she put it "This movie is for the fan, if you want to understand what's going on, read the book." If you read the book, the good parts are all in part 2 (Gringotts, Battle of Hogwarts etc).

This is probably the most faithful movie with regards to the books thus far, in terms of scene by scene.

yeah, i've read on the internet that a lot of people like it for being faithful to the book if a bit scant on the drama over the mystical items.

but general movie goers like myself, who haven't read the book, will find it a bore.

Personally, I would have saved my MovieTowne money for the second film and taken this one on dvd/stream/etc....

well i'm one of the few ppl who haven't watched all the potter films. i stopped after the second one (lent a friend the 3rd movie on dvd before i even watched it and never got it back. never bothered with the series since then). but i decided to watch all of them throughout this week and found it quite enjoyable. i found Goblet Of Fire the most entertaining of them all. haven't watched the Half-Blood Prince yet, but i intend to later. from the way everyone's making it sound, it seems like i'd be better off waiting for the dvd release of the latest movie.

I found Deathly Hallows Part 1 to be a great adaptation of that part of the book.
Captured the feel of the book really well, unlike Half Blood Prince. They made some changes here and there but not enough to bother me.

There was little violence in this part of course but I liked what violent wizardry I saw.
Really makes me feel that Part 2 will be very epic.
