crixx completely ignored the part of my post regarding the projector... figures... he also mentioned having the best gaming experience... for the PC and COD4 you'd need at least an 8600GT or better card (leaning towards better) and at least a 20" monitor PER head, then there's keyboard and mouse preference (laser vs other) then there's SOUND to consider. If you call yourself a real PC gamer your rig would have ALL these attribute and how you doing that for 16 players? from a practical standpoint the PC loses here. It DOES HAVE A BETTER EXPERIENCE, but the COST is prohibitive.

The projector output can be done for the PC as simply as it can for the console so that's not really a plus. All the counterstrike tournies have the action projected for spectators to see (but not the players, for obvious reasons)

the other points are valid.

I'd say everyone agrees that the PC offers a better experience for a tournament.

Also, everyone agrees that the consoles are cheaper to rig up for a tournament.

The question them comes down to the resources of the host.

If the host has tournament ready machines, the issue is moot and to PC we go. (In the case of Arena, we used GL machines to avoid the cost of buying a bunch of new PCs for an annual event)

If they don't have access to such machines and don't have the money to spring for them, consoles become the obvious choice

I go debate with you on your "chookup" scree there Crixx
you can play "chookup" screen if all you have is a pos 27inch tv.....or you can just go on LIVE where MORE people talk in game esp in team matches.
I prefer the 360 with the sheer volume of people i know that play that version. I cant f*cking stand the rooms you go in on PC where NOBODY talks in a team match. Matchmaking and setup is much easier..and nobody does kick yuh MC ass off at times nor do you have to bother about "oh sh!t that ping kinda low"
I dont need to alt tab on LIVE nub - MSN works on LIVE- OOPS!!! and we can just send a voice message - IN GAME....kthxbai.
msg in GATT? i go post that when i have time to waste in between work and gaming..like now.

Being able to play COD4 "good" means as much to me as saying "the sky have clouds" - couldnt give a sh!t. Gaming cafe's could kiss my @ss - nasty places.
well said..Crixx honestly I think you should not make any comments about CoD4 onXbox 360 and Xbox live until you have tried it....And from what I reading I dont think you have gotten a chance yet I have played both pc and xbox 360 and trust me no matter how "nice" the pc running it cant capture the experience you get from XBL.This world would not haev progressed this well without proper communication and XBL bridges the gaming exoerience with the MAJOR effect of ingame communication very conveniently and impressively.

Actually n00bgonewild I was reffering to split screen on a projector like teams... thus you can use 4 Xbox 360's and have 4 teams or 16 players... not something you can do with a PC... it'd be only 1 man... and with an entire team per projector it's a much better spectator sport for a tournament. Just thought to clarify that...

Interesting thoughts on which is better, but I did mention before that we'll have all four formats: PC, XBOX 360, PS3 and the NINTENDO Wii, however, it would save us some extra stress knowing upfront what the majority wants to play in what Games.
So keep it going.

Gaming cafes nasty places...
wow well that's just plain sad at that opinion.

Anyhow the 360 does have the better game management when it comes to online for ppl that just want easy fix or sweat and theres the headset advantage as well but alot of gamers on PC use ventrilo to parry that.
PC has hamachi , gaming clients , steam , hosted servers , xfire to name a few i have alot of overseas friends that fix me with tons of servers, great pings 160 or less sometimes it's 180 but you cant complain. It's just easier for me to get any game up and going on PC arcman and awsome have there hamachi sweats as well there is ventrilo for the talkers like me my clan and i use it religiously during games.Gaming cafe wise i have not been to one but LAN parties etc it rocks,I'm not going to bash and say yea you suck cause you think 360 is the best to each his own whichever one you find easier for access to multilayer so fort enjoy the game.
Also what game rooms do you have to go in to organize a match in cod4 PC and btw there redlum is that the same MLG that takes forever to give you your monies?  :awesome: .
For a gaming competition wisely say PC 10 machines mid spec with 86gts are damn well good, what is with this you have to have the high end parts all the time to get games running people here have there high end pcs but alot of cafes have mid range i have 2 mid range pcs home for lan purposes 3800x2,86gt,1 gig ram and they run fine on that as well.

I also failed to note that yes the xbox360 is better travel wise.

w1ntry, you can combine multiple outputs on one screen.

I am sure you've seen those security camera monitors where they take four video feeds and split it into four quadrants on one screen. Giving you the flexibility of watching one player, or all four, at the click of a button.

It's like a video mixer.

I've seen for the CS tournies where they also throw in another feed from a camera focusing on the actual guys playing on the tournament machines, so every now again you can see the tension on their faces.

Taking that into consideration, won't you say that both console and PC platforms can handle output to projector for spectator purposes with aplomb?

As for the voice chat, silvaback, while that's a perfectly valid point for a regular xbox 360 + live vs PC platform argument, it holds no water when dealing with a tournament setup where the gamers will be within close proximity to each other.

Again, this poll is specifically with regards to the upcoming tournament.

they'd kill that argument with "can" versus "does"

As in xbl people use voicechat more liberally than pc peeps. Understandable since it's the only practical form of communication on that platform. (no keyboard)

Well I catch what you're saying about video feed aggregator n00b, but for a tournament and a practical standpoint won't you agree the Xbox has it down in EASE of setup and COST which ULTIMATELY is what will determine what's used? in ANY scope of life COST tends to be the limiting factor and based on the amount of hardware needed to pull off a SIMILAR experience on the PC vs the console, its just plain easier to go the console route. 16 Mid-High end PCs, High quality k&M, Video aggregatorS, LCD/Monitors AND then Projector for spectator, MORE POWER, MORE SPACE vs. 4 consoles, 4 projectors (handling competitors AND spectators) less space, less power, NO LCD/Monitors, NO video aggregators... you get the picture.

no doubt, you're absolutely right that it will be easier and I agree 100%.

If money is a problem and one can't afford the superior PC setup then by all means, the console solution is the way to go.

slightly off topic, I have another question to throw in the mix.

What about using PC keyboard and mouse on the xbox 360 for COD 4?

http://www.xcm.cc/XFPS_360_PRO.htm

looks like it will do the trick

Agreed but sometimes time changes things. New developments, new technology, new games and last, but not least, new people (who may have missed the last heated argument and want a chance to offer their perspective).

Sometimes the discussion is an end unto itself, nevermind the conclusion (which in this case is usually none, lol)

I look forward everytime it comes up to cast my ballot for PC.

Though I will readily admit that playing Halo with the Keyboard and Mouse on an Xbox kicked ass.

Pity those adapters are frowned upon in competitions because a massive part of the argument could have been rendered moot with it's inclusion.

Hey guys, I just posted the rules in full detail in the PC GAMING section with some 3D pics of what the Gamefest room will look like. This should answer the question of xbox or PC for COD 4
