Insurgency (INS) is a total conversion mod for Half-Life 2,. INS immerses the player in an intense online combat experience. Set on the modern battlefields, Insurgency simulates infantry combat that encourages the use of teamwork and tactics to close with and destroy the enemy.
It is extremely realistic , as close as possible to the actual experience in Iraq and Afghanistan ....
There are no cross hairs : you have to use iron sights / scope , or try to line up the enemy near the centre of the screen if at close range.
There is no health bar : One or two shots from a rifle will kill you, so theres no real need for one ..
There is no Ammo count : You have a rough idea of how much ammo you have left.. and when you should reload, or you can count each shot... Makes taking cover and reloading necessary as you are very vulnerable when doing so . Reloading a rocket launcher or RPG takes a very long time , so it makes good cover or allies essential to survival .
Sides are similar.. but different : Americans get more ammo and better weapons , but in certain game modes the Insurgents have infinite respawns to counter the balance .
The gameplay is unique.. there is no radar so you have to be careful not to kill allies , and you have difficulty knowing where the enemy is firing from most of the time... This makes teamwork mandatory, you have to have an idea of where your mates are so can always run for backup, and when flushing out the enemy it takes several people to spot , pin and take them down.
(unless yuh rambo solo ... which does still work if you can find a covered route and flank the enemy).
The maps are well designed, modeled after Baghdad's streets , Fallujah and the mountains of Afghanistan... Quite large for the most part , and are well layed out . Sniping points , for example , are numerous but are limited enough that each only covers a particular street or objective , so a sniper has to do alot of running around and be vulnerable unless in a group, and nothing is stopping you from shooting an RPG into his window...
This is THE best mod i'v tried for Half Life 2 so far , and perhaps may be the next 'Counter-Strike' , the gameplay is rock solid despite a handful of bugs (beta version) and enjoyable... with the promise of more additions and mods i can see this taking off in the near future .
The file is 600megs, anyone who owns a legit copy of HL2 i recommend you try it out, if you enjoy difficulty and realism you'll love it .
