Vole flirts with Apple's handiworkHey, good looking!By Sylvie Barak: Tuesday, 25 March 2008, 6:09 PMIT LOOKS LIKE the Vole is preparing itself to jump on the Iphone bandwagon. Apparently a team of the Vole’s special Mac developer engineers have been prodding and probing Apple's new Software Development Kit (SDK) to see whether or not they might be able to create Volish software for the Iphone and Ipod Touch in the near future.Corporate vice president of Microsoft's Specialised Devices and Applications Group, Tom Gibbons, told CNN's Fortune that "It's really important for us to understand what we can bring to the Iphone". Please... not Vista!Although the two companies appear to be on less than friendly terms, they are only really pretend enemies, with the Vole boasting one of the largest groups of Mac developers outside of Apple itself. Their job is to develop Volish software for Apple's OSX operating system, which rake in millions of dollars in profit yearly for the Mighty Vole. Now Microsoft is keen to see whether or not the same opportunities could be available to them with the Iphone. And the Mac Business Unit isn't the only Volish group looking the Iphone up and down. Voice recognition unit, TellMe, which the Vole bought last year, purportedly also sees the device as a good opportunity. But they'll have to wait until the end of June, when Apple makes the Iphone software update available, allowing third-parties to develop software for the product. Iphone and Ipod touch owners will also then be able to buy the new software.
