I'm unimpressed. One can get this 22" unit for $230us WITH shipping. I mean, sure the Samsung has superior contrast ratio, but put the two units together, I bet you hardly see the difference.

I mean...if it was a SPVA panel I would understand, but its a TN, making it overpriced.

Don't be fooled by the 8000:1 spec. That is dynamic contrast. The actual contrast ratio is 1000:1.

Pfft marketing, marketing.

Brighter is not always better.

now to say that i give a damn about the contrast ratio... depends.. but seeing that it's 270 us... i'll think twice and check again. 8000:1 is pretty much insane for a pc monitor and it's not even 8000:1.. that Acer on newegg i have been watching a long time now and it seems like the way to go, 22" contrast ratio of 700:1 and to say u can tell the difference... not really.. so i'll take the cheaper bigger monitor than the smaller more expensive "brighter" monitor...

But doesn't contrast ratio refer to the black levels of the monitor...not the brightness???

I mean...how black can you get? My Acer's blacks are pretty black if you ask me. And reading reviews of that Samsung on Newegg, there are a couple people complaining about noise on black backgrounds. As for brightness, there comes a point where if its too bright, it hurts your eyes. So an 8000:1 contrast ratio spec is moot at best. And not forgetting that its actually 1000:1 cr (8000:1 being some bogas variable ratio mumbo jumbo)

^^^Ok I get that it's really 1000:1 and I actually looked at the Acer you are talking about on amazon before this but I mean for about 35us more you get a screen that looks alot more stylish, has built in usb ports and most importantly is can be turned and tilted in all sorta directions.

I dunno about you but I'd be pissed if I can't adjust my screen exactly how I want it to sit but everyone is different. You may say it's over priced but I've seen how a samsung's screen quality and display looks. It's really clean and crystal clear. I won't mind payin a lil extra for my sexy screen

Well, yeah everyone has their preference. I know about Samsung monitors, as a matter of fact we have a SPVA unit here, quality is excellent. But when it comes right down to it, this 20" model is a TN panel and pretty much all TN panels look very good.

But believe me, the sheer size difference between a 20 and 22" is profound. Personally I can do without a few adjustment features and have a larger screen ESPECIALLY if I save some $$ in the process. It should also be noted that the Acer displays 1080i hi def and is fully HDCP compatible.

 When you're using a monitor, who really wants to move the thing up, down, left right all the time? I just put mine to stand on something to give it height and manually maneuver it when necessary. It sits there and movies only when its time to clean it. A bit ghetto, yes but it gets te job done.

Right now I'm waiting until July to get my one, it helps when family coming in, so they just pack it in the suitcase with sufficient padding, hopefully nothing will break during transit,so I can get it for almost list price *grumbles @ NY's Sales Tax*...
