I ain't gonna read all that between you two, however I see points in both arguments. In NGW defense I can think of a particular MMORPG that is very single player oriented and very popular: EVE... I myself can't say I see the attraction in it, but alot of ppl out there do. As for Shiv well his reference is WOW which is THE most popular MMORPG of all time and by now the best selling Game of all time (can someone verify this). I do think however an MMORPG that is lacking the the MMO and more geared towards the single player experience does not warrant the classification of MMORPG but rather RPG with an MMO element. I believe Phantasy Star is an example of that.

tell me about it.

what's the point of being online in an mmo and using "npc henchmen??" lol.

It may sound silly at first but in reality, sometimes you just can't find someone willing to go on the same mission as you at the same time with a class you need (say a healer, or a  warrior) so it does have it's benefits.

Granted, the NPC ain't gonna be much for conversation nor the most skilled comrade on the trip but it's better than nada.

Yeah until the NPC turns ur otherwise normal quest into a Babysitting mission... I can't quite remember the term X-Play used... twas funny how they referred to it...."We HATE ESCORT missions"

don't forget that the ps3 is backwards compatible, so while you're playing your good old PS2 rpg's the new ones may be well on the way right?
There are no backward compatible PS3's available at the moment. the 40GB are not, and thats all u gonna find. Maybee trini have some 60 GB which is the best version to get.

U want RPG's go PS2. There really isnt a huge list of titles available yet for next gen really.

Im on Lost Odyssey right now and it is an amazing title. 30+ hours and im only just into Disc 3. And this is without trying to get EVERYTHING.
But in all honesty hold on a while....another year. For now PS2 is a VERY good choice for RPG.

Is that the final word for PS3? Is Sony discontinuing BC PS3's? That would really suck.

No the backward content is only for the 40GB version. There is a rumored 120 GB version floating around Gamestop that will revitalize the BC.
It WOULD suck. Im finding myself digging up and playing those PS2 games i never had a chance to play before.

go to playstations website if you want (google it if you want) and check their compatibility listing for the current 60 and 80 GB.

god man noobgonewild doh even start on that POS "ah finish in a weekend" lvl 20 free crap that they call Guild Wars. That is like the nub introduction to MMORPG. gah.

Checked it out, seems like the 40GB version just looked like a placeholder for the while, since even the 20 GB had BC as well. fingers crossed

40GB has no BC, it doesn't contain any PS2 hardware.
20GB, 60GB both discontinued. 80GB is almost completely sold out and not being restocked. Sony has also removed it from its online listing. Official announcement seems to not be far away.

Rumor of a 120 gig. the silver or w/e one they calling it is coming out soon too. the 80GB have emulated hardware as compared to the 60GB actual PS2 hardware. However the patches that are released monthly make up for any compatibility issues with certain games.
They took a hella bet with "selling" the chip company to Toshiba...as we can see now it was part of the deal for "you scratch my back i scratch yours" when 2 months later Toshiba flushes HD-DVD.
Microsoft want to play rough? daz okay SONY can play rough too.

who's goin to buy that? the hd-dvd add-on didnt sell well and the blu-ray add-on will most likely be more expensive. better to jus buy a ps3.

^^

i think the HD dvd add-on didnt sell well, cuz the market was still unsettled..

1) unlike the PS3 where you already make a choice in format, spending  extra cash on an add-on that might be a waste was a hard sell. add-ons are always a hard sell.. think power-glove, 32X,  light guns, etc.. with the exception of DDR mats and guitar hero guitars, i cah recall any add-on that really take the place by storm.. regardess of price

2) the availability of HD-DVD content...  studios released less and less in HD-DVD, and places stopped stocking it

3) the need for it... i mean really...  even if it were a blu-ray add-on... i think the 360 crowd is all about the games.. especially since MS was never going to use HD-DVD as game media

even IF they were to release an offical blue ray add-on.. ( which i doubt.. cuz tha's like sayin.. yeah. we know sony have the better HD media so we gonna bite it..... and also IF sony gonna grant them a license to use their patented Blue Ray tech.. cuz without some sort of HD media, they perhaps may choke MS's next console offering)

jsut speculation, btw.. not gospel

Ok well....

[PS3 Plug]
I this topic is still debating which console to get...

If you want a Multimedia Centre for your home equipped with the bestest HD player on the market, that can play the PS2 games you want.... Future ready, for all later Playstation RPG offerings, FF etc...

Investing in a PS3 is not a bad idea... (60GB Model +)

Store all your content on the HDD, upgrade it if you wish..

Yeah that is a plug if I ever saw one. As for saying the add-on is a bad way. As you mentioned, the 360 is a gaming console first and a player 2nd (i've been saying that since my first post in this thread). To say it didn't say just buying a ps3 is better zen is nonsense, did you even think bout that statement before spouting it? let's do the math... a BR add-on would prolly MRSP for 150USD a PS3 and the CLOSEST at that is 300USD. Hmm I own a Xbox 360, let me spend 300USD on a new player JUST to play BR, dude seriously. I also mentioned in an earlier post that what console you ultimately choose will hinge not only on the games but consideration for 'other' functionality eg. playing BR movies. As it stands, the Xbox has more HD content downloadable via LIVE and with a BR add on it would play those HD nrop content you want so badly to watch :p The 360 is also a media gateway as it will stream video/music from your computer and it's built into Media Player 11, also you can rent movies, download arcade games via Live and you can also chat on MSN messenger using ur xbox.  So I don't really see how the Ps3 has ANY edge on the 360 from a content Or functionality point of view.

Either way de man done say he going used Ps2 which is a very economic pathway. This thread is now officially LOCKED
