Yes, the Dreamcast had some stellar ports of arcade 2D fighters (SFA3 comes to mind), not to mention the better-than-arcade Soul Calibur.
The biggest complaint I had about the DC though, was that controller!!!  UGH!!!  No wonder the DC wasn't used all that
much for serious tournament play.  I suppose we were all spoiled by Sony's excellent Dual Shock controllers (PS1 eh, NOT PS2).

I still have mine...and I can only play those games with the use of a very nice DC-to-PSX converter.

I could probably still give you a run for your money in Soul Calibur, SFA3, SFIII, and maybe DOA2.
All the rest are like 'meh'.....

Oh, and welcome to GATT by the way.

I am sorry...the PS2's analog buttons made playing fighting games, especially the 2D ones,
really sluggish in my opinion.  A PS2 controller cannot match a well 'broken in' PS1 controller
for fighting games.  I have played enough Alpha 3 and EX to know this.

The D-pad on the PS1 controller worked fine for me.  As with most things, your mileage may vary.

no, ps2 and ps1 both have sucky controlls

lack of six buttons on the front has alwaysssssssss irked me
only games it is acceptable on is tekken and calibur

and as for the dpad
its not about milage, its about the fact that nintendo has teh d pad trade marked
thats why only nintendo controls have the interconnected dpad,
ps is teh suckage for lack of interconnected d pad

imho the 360 has the most comfortable controller, but that's beside the point here. The Dreamcast was a BEST console ahead of its time sadly. I had/have one.... but it no long functions :*( and the ONLY game I really loved was Sonic Adventure where they introduced SHadow... if ever someone having a sweat with that I Dere!!! I not a fan of fighters cause my fingers doh hold off long on button mashing....

snes controller no doubt, the GREATEST controller for fighting.

If only it had 6 buttons top side, it would be absolutely and completely unstoppable.

A patent by nintendo is the only reason more controllers weren't made with it's exceptionally performing dpad.

The N64 controller carried the same tech but a las was a bit awkward in shape, though still awesome for fighting games (with the greatest shame being that the platform had very very few fighting games of it's own).

yeah but once again, they didn't put 6 buttons top side with the wii classic controller. Someone in the R&D department should be shot. lol

The Sega Saturn controller was also pretty decent and carried 6 buttons on the face. Next best thing.

a snes controller with 6 buttons, oh how I dream of thee. That's like the holy grail right there

To be honest, I half-way liked the  N64 controller, but it didn't cost me my enjoyment with 64 games though... really liked the SNES controller a lot, it was so simple and felt great in my hands! Whoa... Saturn's controller looks disgusting... No wonder meh coz neva buy dat :S

* NoobGoneWild kills rten for dissin sega saturn controller and slaughters eroo for talking mess about the psx controller.

The PSX controller (as opposed to the PS2 controller) really was a superior device for fighting games than most but still pales next to the God King Nintendo.

Ah boy, Bryan Master. The sleeping dogs are slowly awakening.
