Anime City Announcement
« on: January 27, 2008, 02:05:23 PM »
I just received this in my e-mail.
I figured that GATT's merry band of otakus would like this information, so, here it is:

Quote

Hello Everyone,

Well, as the header says, ANIME CITY is back - sort of ... Let me explain.

Despite spending way too much time outside of T&T these past 12months, we had always planned to do our next show for Easter with a triumphant return to The Centre of Excellence, the original home of Anime City. Everything had to be planned down to the final detail for this show, to be called SHINKA, since, as with everything else, the Centre of Excellence had raised their charges astronomically once more for us (no big surprise, they've done that before) and the projection and sound equipment rental had also skyrocketed - so there was no room for error.

There would have been a small increase in ticket prices but we would still be fair to all Otakus and keep them as low as we always have. But the big change came when some of our major sponsors in the US & Japan emailed us and informed the organising committee that some of the cutting edge stuff we had planned for SHINKA would be delayed until July-August this year - far too late for us to present in March. Our sponsors suggested that we move the show to the end of October, early November instead so as to have everything ready in time. We agreed - but more on that later!

So we were left in a bind - fans were emailing and calling non-stop asto when the next ANIME CITY would be - how could we tell them that we'd have to cancel again? Finally, we spoke to some of the loyal Otakus and they suggested we do a smaller, more intimate show just so the local fans would have somewhere to spend some time and lime together. Sounds like a plan - we remembered how much fun everyone had at our last show back in January 2007 and how intimate the setting was - so it's a go BUT ONLY 350 tickets will be sold

.... ANNOUNCING ... ANIME MINI-CITY 2K8 Saturday March 29th ROYAL PALM HOTEL MARAVAL 8am - 7pm TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE (only 350 will be sold)Special Reserved - $50VIP - $80 (with lunch included) Can anyone else boast that after a 1 year absence they can come backand provide tickets at THE SAME PRICE as they were 12 MONTHS ago???

No one but THE GENESIS FOUNDATION cares as much about anime and the loyal, local Otakus to do this! We helped build the following thatAnime has in Trinidad and we will not bow to pressure to raise pricesat all - as long as we break even with our endeavours that's enough for us - as anyone knows, having kept our ticket prices steady formore than 4 years it was never about the money. Some things are moreimportant - namely fun, camaraderie and having a good time. In addition to the multiple screens with great movie, we plan to havethe usual favourites at ANIME MINI-CITY 2K8 - Karaoke, Dance DanceRevolution and all the rest of the good stuff - - AS WELL AS games using the Nintendo WII and other interactivesystems - all for you to enjoy! We'll also have the usual ANIME CITY MALL filled with all the latestcomics, manga, DVDs, anime and all the other good stuff we're famous for!

TICKETS GO ON SALE THIS WEEKEND, SATURDAY 26TH, AT:

THE GENESIS FOUNDATION
#1 ROSALINO STREET
WOODBROOK
TELEPHONE - 627-8433
MOBILE - 737-4102

AND

X-TRA FOODS
SUPERMARKET
GRAND BAZAAR MALL

Those who email/call early enough to reserve their tickets can collect them ahead of everyone else a day earlier at THE GENESIS FOUNDATION on FRIDAY JANUARY 25th ... So what are you waiting for? Remember only 350 TICKETS WILL BE SOLD in total - we're trying to keep the show as intimate as possible so fanscan bond and have their usual great time!

By the way, in case you're wondering why I've highlighted two parts of this newsletter out in bold...well, try to figure that out for yourselves.

Well I was at the last one, and if they are having it again in Royal Palm....I'm not sure as yet then if I'll be going.

The only way I'll consider going is if to demo Guitar Hero for people to play....

(I assume you know where Charlotte Street is!)

Taxis that go Maraval are found on the corner of Duke and Charlotte Streets (in front the KFC on the corner)

Royal Palm is right after Hilo and SuperPharm. Can't miss the huge green "Royal Palm Plaza" sign. Walk right up the street after you alight from taxi

There's a word for Anime Cities like this one, and that word is FAIL.
After enduring a couple gay detectives, what was essentially softcore porn, a show where the main objective seemed to be showing schoolgirls in the tub all broken up only by one demon anime, when I saw what the next show was shaping up to be I and my group needed to gtfo out the VIP room.
Straight into Turok *sigh*. And DMC which despite being meh was the best thing I'd seen all day. We're all battle hardened AC veterans but enough was enough. The only time I've ever went home earlier was the first one they had in Lion's.

It's like the put the old mature screen section that young teens used to rush when in was in Centre of Excellence in the VIP room. Ugh, all in all the selection was much better last time.
Even that one in Lion's at least had a cool Justice League episode to redeem it. Maybe I'd have thought better if I didn't already see all those DBZ and have the Naruto/Bleach movies on my PC.

AC really buss....was my first time there and i found liming with sum random gyul way more exciting than sitting on a chair where ah ketchin meh azz to see the anime....they showed alot of crappy anime that i didnt know abt(none of which i liked)...I was out of there by half 12...80$ was wasted but i will go the nex AC once its held at a much much larger venue and once i hav ppl to go with

I could've told you guys that. The convention held at the Royal Palm Hotel was the worst Anime City ever imaginable. Sub-par screenings, terrible catering and the space. God, it felt like trying to work your way into a matchbox.

That's why I didn't even bother with this one....and why I highlighted these two statements in bold from the newsletter:

Quote
we remembered how much fun everyone had at our last show back in January 2007

Quote
we're trying to keep the show as intimate as possible

...because they are, quite frankly, BULLS**T.

The one at the Center of Excellence? Most definitely. Royal Palm? NEVER AGAIN.

lol...I headed down there for about 4 or thereabouts after work...and I was bored before 5pm. At least I didn't spend a cent on a ticket. :)

The next one *may* be in Centre Of Excellence (YAY!) and possibly an October/November schedule, from people in the know there...but that's all subject to a million and five issues before that would be official.

Hopefully they will get more variety in terms of GOOD anime to show...

I think its safe to say that at this point ( and long before that) that hafeez is just milking this cow dry. He's been doing it since the third AC

"these idiots will continue to come and will watch whatever I show when I show it" <--- I was right next to the man when he told a person this @ AC5. That was the last time I ever went to that nonsense with tickets I paid for.

Well they showed Naruto/Bleach movies.....if that counts.

I mean, throw in some Death Note at least, it would be enjoyable to watch some of those episodes on the big screen...

As for the milking bit, yea we know Hafeez has been doing that for a long time, but at this point I just use the event to lime and meet up with people that I've made friends with from the earliest ACs, since quite often I don't get to see some of them outside of these events...

Just to show how far this event has fallen...in the earlier events, so much attention would have been given to an event such as this, and now....?
