They are listed as a negative due to purchases over the last fiscal year vs returns ( ATI purchase spilled over, fiscally ) and stock price drop, in reality they are worth about 7 billion in real terms, IE liquid assets as they have no non invested cash in the bank.
Don't forget the German gvmn't gave them 338 million to keep fab 36 running! AMD also posted about the same net loss this quarter.
On a good note Ati ( well AMD graphics division or what ever they are called ) posted about $100 million in profit!
Also IBM, and novell, both amd technology partners are doing well, IBM will most likely throw AMD a bone or two since they need amd to help with their 45 and 32nm k-metal chip roll out next year. Novell needs AMD's support for suse linux and might also throw a bone their way if needed, so I won't worry just yet about amd going under, but this time next year might be a different story.
