The Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated near the capital, Islamabad, on Thursday. Witnesses said Ms. Bhutto, who was appearing at a political campaign rally, was fired upon at close range by a gunman, and then struck by shrapnel from a blast that the government said was caused by a suicide bomber.

Wow, a nasty, two-pronged attack it would seem.  Maybe she should have stayed in exile.  There will always be opposition
to a woman being in charge of a muslim state (as bad as that sounds)...especially in a country like Pakistan, which is
home to many muslim radicals.  While this is unexpected, its not altogether surprising.

My 1st thought when I saw the headline was 'ah boy, they finally got to her'.  A very treacherous turn of events for Pakistan no doubt.
I wonder what the Bush administration's official statement on this will be?  Its no secret that the US has given Pakistan PLENTY aid
in exchange for assistance in the 'War On Terror', and the hunt for Bin Laden.  I wonder how this new scenario will affect that arranangement?

 Very sad bit of news , i believe that women will make better leaders for the same reasons they make better parents  , but the world hasn't changed enough to let them.
   Its either some radical @sshole or musharraf himself trying to maintain a hold on power , but she knew she was risking her life by returning home, so she was prepared to make the sacrifice .

 Pakistan having nuclear weapons... a pile of ex taliban militia in the mountains and possibly bin laden may force foreign intervention , at least from NATO , maybe from other islamic countries..

  What might be fun, would be to see Iranian troops coming in to keep the peace , and fight terrorism... Would make bush feel like a Jack@ss
