Actually, Crix, the board that is currently central in my gaming rig is a $99US, possibly now $95us board that's overclocking like a biat........just look at my benchie thread and you'll see what I mean. But that biostar board, watch that like a hawk oui. Don't trust it.  Yeah, Notodd, the Intel will probably give you more bang for you OC buck too.

PNY GeForce 7900GS
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400
Thermaltake 500W PS <- think CZ have this for 7 or so
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L P35

USD415 < 300 + 180 = 480

my 2c;

i know yuh go buss meh balls for the v/c but it performs well and it cheap, you can always get ah 88gts when they go down or sum (or a GT :D). I agree with crixx on the board, but i disagree with the 150 pricetag, giga makes nice boards and they work well, not an OC anymore so cant help you there, but these processors known for good oc results even with stock so i dont think yuh lacking in capabilities...google nuh man :)

i know how it is to be on ah budget and want to still run ah lil thing, so i can understand where yuh comming from.
I'd also like to suggest you get at least 2GB ram, runs nicely :)

EDIT: i forgot to mention newegg is only a reference site, them prices might vary, so look around.

Dude I have that board and a 5000+ processor and for a gaming pc it rocks

Of course its not a 680i chipset with ridiculous overclocking capabilities, but there are those capabilities there.

It comes with the t-utility hardware monitoring and overclocking tools so that you can monitor hardware temps and overclock (with voltage changes)

in windows.

I know my gpu has a lot to do with my 3dmark score, but 10,182 speaks for itself considering i paid 220USD for my mobo and processor.

To this day, the only game that i cannot play with all setting maxed is crysis.  High resolutions kill this game, but again thats gpu dependent.

We have 6 SATA interface, 24 pin x 8 pin power connector so u need a really good psu and make sure to by thermal compound to replace the

stock one on the cpu heatsink.

People could talk smack about it but i assure you, I have the board and i know how good it is. Bye the bye, it kills the xfx 650i and c2 duo e6600 setup my pal has, and he kicked 150 on his board and 220 on his processor. We have the same graphics card, ram and monitor.

Go for it!!!

maybe one of the e2180 intels

I happen to have one of those in a corner home, check Trading Grounds... it will be a good start.

For a Gaming system, your absolute minimum video card would be a 7900GS, and aim for the 8800 series if you can afford it (I have a spare 7900GS, berserker has an 8800GT for sale. See Trading Gorunds again)

My choices of chipset would be Nvidia 650i or Intel P35, whatever motherboard you buy. MSI is my first choice brand, but others like Asus, gigabyte and Abit are all very good as well.

and yes, a US$99 motherboard CAN do the job.
God is dead.

I'd go with the lowest end Core 2 duo unless you want upgradability ... intel isn't as nice for that unless you buy expensive motherboards.

the cheapest Core 2 duo with stock cooling can overclock to 2.5ghz easy , and will rape anything AMD has .

And i'd shell out the extra money for a Radeon 3870, the 3850 is good but it only has 256 RAM.

An 8600 isn't so bad if you get it for like 100 US and need to save the cash, but the 3800s/8800gts are worth the extra money , abt 3 times the speed for twice the price .

The CPU/mobo combo aint bad.  An Intel mobo/CPU would have given you better 'bang for buck',
but it costs a bit more.  If that's your budget, then so be it.  While the CPU is important, the GPU
is even more important for gaming, so whatever corners you cut with the CPU can be made up for quite handily
with the GPU.  8800 or nothing.  the 8600 series cards are a WASTE of money.  You might as well look at a 7900 GS
instead.

the 3850 is a good buy now, but in the future you'll want at least 512m gpu memory, like in 6 months or so.

that just the way it is.

Hmm seems I got here late, but yuh never know here is my 2c:

Go with the AMD X2 5000+ BLACK Ed. Its 129USD on newegg and it's an unlocked 65nm processor that will EASILY get up to 3GHz on good AIR cooling.

I WOULD say go 790FX but that will be costly and also I would say go 8800GT over the 3870 since they are kinda competing on price due to limited availabilty of both (thats vendor gouging for yah). I know not of that brand of PSU and well the mobo is neither here nor there imho (meaning your choice is fine with ur budget). You can get some really decent DDR2800 or 1066 1GBx2 kits for JUST over 100USD. If you want some more advice before you take the leap let me know.

Whats the diffence between the AMD X2 6000+ and AMD X2 5000+ BLACK Ed?.If i had the money would of go with the 8800GT but the 3850 is only $180 usd thats why i say i getting the 3850 not the 3870.Or for the ram my cousin is get that for me he work at cz so will get me the best he can get.

did not oder any thing as yet so let me know whats the diffence between the cpu's

The Ultra PSUs are quite good.  Don't let other people's (lack of?:laughing7:) knowledge chain you up...
I've been Using an Ultra XvS 700 Watt modular PSU for close to a year now with absolutely no issues.

The X2 5000 Black Edition is 'unlocked', meaning you can OC it by raising the CPU multiplier setting in the
motherboard's BIOS, while leaving the front-side-bus (FSB) frequency untouched.  This is a much better and safer way of OC'ing,
as the rise in heat is not as significant as OC'ing with the FSB.  You can also OC a lot before having to change your CPU core voltage
(which also contributes to more heat dissipation).  If your goal is never to OC, then get the 6000.

Personally, I think a low end Asus, Gigabyte, Abit, or MSI motherboard would be better than that Biostar.
The overall build quality of those manufacturer's products are significantly better.
For example check this Asus M2N-E SLI.  Great price, superior build, and plenty features.

Built a system for my brother with that same board. Its a good board however the ps2 port for the mouse gave out in like 2 weeks.
Can't really spend all that money for an rma so just bought a usb mouse instead. No complaints otherwise

I would still recommend that you go Intel though.  You have MANY more upgrade options there.
You can start with a low-end CPU like the E2180 (which can OC like a champ) and a fairly cheap motherboard like the Asus P5N-E SLI.
There's a ton of 65 nm CPUs you can then upgrade to, all the way up to the Kentsfield (quad-core) Q6600 and Q6700 (funds permitting of course).

Couple that with this 2 x 1 GB OCZ RAM and you all set, and you STILL aint spend $300 US yet.

All those items are free shipping to Miami as well, so you only pay for the shipping to TnT, and VAT on the RAM only (no duties).
