Also, guys, is a 450 watt psu really good enuff?

I say it is good enough as long and he not gonna have a set of drives installed,  or he not using SLI, or he not going higher than an 8600/7900

I had a 380 watt psu powering these specs in the avatar without issue...so yeah....once its a good quality psu, it will work  for most configs.

here is what u get

a 3850 will own the 7900 what ever, it's cheap and will hang around for a good while. IF you get some more cash see if you can get a crossfire mobo, this way ( if amd is around )  you can just add a new ati whatever and still keep your existing card, they scale very well in xfire.

definitely go with intel, at least you can upgrade as time allows to something faster but also they oc so easy, the new 8400's or 21xx dual cores look good.

psu does matter!! a good 380w will do better than a cheap 600w!!  a decent 450-500w will do

after that your on your own ( ram, case, drives etc )

Just remember, Crossfire mobos are more expensive eh.  Be prepared to shell out
anywhere between 180-250 US for a good one.  I can recommend the Abit IP35 Pro
(which is in my current system) but I've never tried Crossfire so I don't know how much
better the performance would be.  I personally don't recommend Crossfire unless you
are gaming at resolutions above 1900 x 1200, which only a few VERY expensive LCDs
support.

Yuh know I used to think so as well... but with 2 3850s as an sub 400USD option... I almost regret NOT buying that damn Sapphire Xfire mobo when I was upgrading... and btw 1900x1200? dude you need Xfire just to run CRYSIS at proper specs :p and thats prolly 1280x1024 what you talking bout ?

Well, Crysis is the obvious exception, but then, the rest of the system needs to be
somewhat uber as well if you running that. Cutting corners won't 'cut' it. :laughing7:

A nice cheap P35 paired with an equally cheap c2d is the best choice for any builder looking to get a uber system on the cheap. With so much overclocking potential, there's no need to go AMD anymore.

Well that's good enough, but you should have gone with a cheaper, lower clocked INTEL chip which you could go on to overclock to as much 80% or so cuz because even @ 3ghz the card will be bottlenecked a little too much. E.g a 2.0ghz stock e4400 could reach 3.2ghz easily on stock volts and 3.4 with a vcore bump or even a cheaper alternative like the e21xx series and obtain a similar overclock...but on the other hand you might not have been able to handle the dynamics required to oc that high.

Oh, you DEFINATELY should have skipped that ishy Nforce 500 board omg I could imagine how much hairy sweaty man wh*re balls that would suck for overclocking. At the very least you should have looked for a 550, and not even that. Nforce 570 at least. Oh well, good luck overclocking, you'll need it.

I was on a budget so i went  amd. For the mobo i was going for the deluxe version of the mobo but i had to take that one if i wanted an 8800GT.
