some reviews here

# Tweaktown (Q6600 @ 3GHz; DDR3-1066; Cats Beta)
# VR-zone (QX9650 @ 3GHz; DDR3-1333; Cats 8.43)
# LegionHardware (E6850 @ 3GHz; DDR3-1333; Cats 7.10)

so far while it does get eaten by the 8800gt, it seems ok if they arrive at the price points ( ie no retail gouging and typical lower cost than msrp ).

most interesting is that in dx10 they seem to perform better, hopefully they will drop in price some more as if they do ( quickly ) they will be fighting with 8600xx and 8800gts cards.

for now if the prices don't drop the 8800gt just owns.

Also note, while the 8800gt owns all it's hard to actually get, and if a 3850 512m shows up for $170 ish I'm buying one and waiting till the next set of cards.

My sentiments exactly, some of those reviews sites sound/look like they eating off of the green teams table, their benchmarks aren't even CLOSE to the majority which seems to suggest that:
3850 PWNS the 150USD space aka 2600XT and 8600GT/S
3870 is decent when price is considered but is bested by the 8800GT 10 times outta 11.

What I am curious to know is if with more DX10 and 10.1 titles, if these cards won't improve in performance. As in an article I just posted the HD3000 series cards are DX10.1 ready and 10.1 brings 1 VERY important improvement related to AA. Whilst if you buy the 8xxx series chances are it'll never get a patch to be 10.1 capable. So in a sense it more future proof... and then there's the rumours that Crossfire X will run on ANY chipset... meaning 2,3,4 cards to get even more performance.. I mean 3x3850 is STILL $$$ < 1x8800Ultra $$$ and I would like to think it will hold up against the Ultra for the most part. So its kinda up in the air... what I am also interested in is finding out when the HD series will be FAH capable. These cards should EAT every CPU, PS3 and multi-core system alive when it comes to folding... I don't know whats the hold up!!!

that and the drivers are still beta! the 2900xt improved alot with better drivers, this is ati's problem

also look at some of the power colour and asus cards expected, factory OC with a better cooler matching the 8800gt is some areas and prices are expected to actually drop, making this good mid range choices.

So far it seems while the 8800gt is the faster card , the 3870 and 3850 are actually available at MSRP ...

A look at newegg shows all the 8800gts sold out , and 3850's at 179 still available...

Apparantly AMD is planning to beat Nvidia by volume : they are shipping over 500 000 3000 series cards to Nvidia's 50 000 8800gts.

Anyone who wants a card atm , the best thing you can get is a 3750 for 219,  though you can find the 8800gts around the net at odd prices and by brands you don't really want to touch.

DAAMIT's 3870 X2 has been spotted and benchmarked:

3870 X2 spotted in the wild

By Wily Ferret: Wednesday, 09 January 2008, 11:57 AM

ATI IS STAKING its high-end reputation on its upcoming 3870 X2 card, which has two R670 chips on a single board. Details have been scarce, but not only has one turned up in a system at CES, but it's been benchmarked too.

The card is absolutely huge-mongous, with two GPUs, two sets of memory, two power connectors and a bridging chip sat between them - not to mention the Crossfire connector sat on the top.

There's 1GB of memory on board, and the GPUs are currently running at 770/2250MHz.

The folks at Hot Hardware have pics of the card from the show floor here, whilst the stripped naked pics and benchmarks are over here at OC Workbench. Tasty. µ

Here's some pics from the links:

Yes you saw right 9k + @ 2560x1600

It's a LONG @$$ card

But to give a better idea of how long, check it in contrast to a mobo

This could be my upgrade path XD

Don't be fooled, that mobo could be only 8.3" in width as opposed to the 9.something inches of a normal mobo. My 8800 falls about the same length as that pictured card. That score is truly impressive @ that resolution...if that source is ligit. Can't understand why they didnt run the benchmark in default resolution so we could get an idea of how it stacks up against other cards.

Very good CPU cooler BTW, Arctic Freezer 7 ftw!!!

Well we got some leaked scores:
Quote
HD3870X2 delayed, benchmarked

West misses East by a week

By Paul Taylor: Tuesday, 22 January 2008, 12:48 PM

AMD HAS riled world+dog by back the date on the 3870X2 launch.

NDA’d for today, the twin engine graphics card was supposed to shock and awe consumers around the world as hardware sites were to publish their benchies on the beast.

Sources claim AMD delayed the release by a week so the 3870X2, 3650 and 3450 will all be launched together on the 28th in one big benchmarkfest.

The reason NDA'd reviewers and editors are miffed is that they received their samples last Friday, spent a weekend benchpressing the cards and now they have received a postponement call from DAAMIT explaining they are working on new drivers for the cards.

However, pouring salt into the wound, lawless bandits in far-off China (actually it's a post on PCOnline.com.cn) have also ruined the NDA party by breaking cover and ambushing a poor little 3870X2 with a bunch of benchmarks. You've got numbers galore there, and you can see the 3870X2 pulling ahead of an 8800Ultra, 14573 to 10676 in 3DMark06 – with the “old” drivers, we assume.

In other words, while the samples are fine, DAAMIT is likely to be fine-tuning the driver performance in order to avoid any glitches. We can only assume that the reviewers that signed the NDA are really just getting to be official spokessites for the final versions of the driver.

So sit tight - seven days until West catches up with East. µ
