Athlon x2 Socket 939 help!!
« on: November 07, 2007, 03:21:33 PM »
I wanted to know is two things what is the fastest available x2 processor available for the 939 socket, this way Betsy 11 will be able to run the current gen games and also be able to do its main job as storage/work pc, and secondly will it make sense to buy a plain 64 or buy the x2 because it is newer.

I dont currently have an x2 processor but I am thinking of getting one, why you may ask, well because I have a socket 939 board (which I got from Hard O/C, works good mofo) also memory (which was freakin expensive when I bought it so will use it until it dies)a 3500+ processor and an x1950PRO which I bought recently.

This pc is to replace my current storage rig (Betsy 1) so it doesnt have to be the fastest on the block (Betsy ultimate will fulfill that role).

Betsy 1-             Athlon XP 1500+
Betsy 11-           Athlon 64 3500+(currently in the making)
Betsy Ultimate-  Still saving for that bi@tch will start buyin parts when all the new standards have their kinks worked out(ddr3, pci-e2.o, quad core processors)

As it stands, I would say if you already in possession of a 3500+ then by all means use it and lime with that ftw. THe fastest 939 X2 I believe was a 2.8GHz or X2 6000, but good luck finding that in ANYTHING BUT AM2 atm. 939's are unfortunately as easy to find as pink elephants these days, and should something happen to it... well crapo smoke yuh pipe trying to replace it. I would advise you to consider AM2 or  Core 2. Otherwise as I mentioned should you already have the mobo, ram and CPU lime with that. On another note check ur PM I have a request.

Well, as options you have this, and this still available for socket 939.
Not the fastest for that socket, but current gaming is way more GPU-dependant,
so either of those will do very nicely...and they don't cost an arm and a leg to import.

Will go with that 4200+, but whey didnt know that BF2 was dual core supported!!!  This pc will just be for dloading via uTorrent storing said dloads and playing BF2 and when COD4 comes out that too(low-medium settings dont really care)  Will wait a bit tho hopefully it will get cheaper.

You're reffering to COD4 right? cause you know they don't make 939 processors anymore right?

hmmm i was lucky to get my hands on the 4200.

performance is great even on this dying socket, and i was able to oc it to 2.8 from a stock of 2.2 without affecting stability...(thank you capn awesome!)

and honestly most games are runnin pretty good, on high settings, especially since i coupled this rig with a fairly decent gpu, so yea go for the 4200 if you could find it....

otherwise core 2 quad is the way to go

Wow freakin expensive!!!  I wasnt looking to spend that much for a new processor for this comp.
This 939 pc is going to mainly be a storage pc(it will be fast enough to play BF2 on the highest and most likely COD4 on medium), so just wanted to get something as fast as I can get for as low as I can get it, makes not sense spending an arm and a leg for a storage pc.

I am also saving for a monster, whenever the parts that can make crysis its bi@tch gets released will start on it.

Those parts should be out next year... so you have LOTS of time...
