Only thing tstt pisses me off with, others who stay up till weee hours of the morning will know this as well, is that constant drop in service from around 2am. That just happens every 20mins and it's annoying to reboot your modem all the time to get back net.

TSTT just came through hooking us up onto a new set of copper lines , bandwidth is way up , 2,1mbits off of TSTT's bandwidth test , 4mbits off of speedtest.com!
I might rethink switching to flow if this lasts..

I think they'r running us through fibre halfway , my connection on the modem says connected at 20mbits , 25mbits attainable...
Old copper used to disconnect alot , and max speed between 2mbit and 1.5mbits , varying with weather conditions.

Generally the internet connections from TSTT will be a fibre backbone between exchanges and transatlantic connections, but the connections to your home are UNDOUBTEDLY COPPER. It's just that the distance between you and the closest junction box (which connect to the exchange) is fibre or your connection is directly to the closest exchange, thus copper to the exchange and fibre otherwise. It's OBVIOUS! the modem uses YOUR PHONE LINE which is?
take a guess? i'll even give you a hint: It's also known as Cu in the periodic table, its stolen from lampost regular, it's used to make jewelry, it conducts electricity pretty well, and it has a COPPER COLOUR :p

W1n's right. TSTT could have all the fibre in the world running on your street but as long as the lines to your house remains copper, you'll get copper connection speed.

Thas nothing if they apply the max copper speeds we'd be good... As u said 25Meg down are possible... look at this pic. If only tstt was japanese, u should see the avg speed on speedtest.net for japan.

TSTT was supposed to have 'pushed fibre closer to the customers' or something so..
I assume that it means i'm going through a much shorter length of copper ie. From junction box to my house than before.
According to the graph i would have to be about 1km from the exchange to get a 20mbit connection like the modem says , i know for a fact my exchange is much further than that (i know where the exchange is) : The old cables used to struggle to connect at 2mbits before .
I'm sure that i'm still on the same exchange as all the technicians did was attach our houses to the new lines, and Blink hasn't reached the other exchanges in the area as yet.
If we hooked up to a different exchange i would not have gotten back ADSL service immediately (remember the ADSL signal is specific to that phone line) , and the higher bandwidth would probably not have been transferred over to the new exchange for me alone.
So my conclusion (i'll ask a TSTT technician to be sure) is that TSTT has a system similar to Flow , utilizing fibre to extend the range of their ADSL service.
Fibre to a junction box, and copper after that to my house .
