Capcom Bringing Lost Planet to PC
« on: April 16, 2007, 07:47:00 PM »

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Capcom's previously Xbox 360-exclusive third person sci-fi action shooter, is in development for PC, the publisher announced at a San Francisco press event last night. Having taken flak for the SourceNext-developed, Ubisoft-published PC ports of Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, perceived by some to be inferior to their console originals, Capcom stated that it is handling the PC version of Lost Planet entirely in-house, with assistance from NVidia. During last night's event, the company cited the success of the game on Xbox 360 and "the resurgence of the PC market" as factors in the decision to put Lost Planet on PC. Last month, Capcom announced that its anticipated action game Devil May Cry 4 is also in development for PC as well as Xbox 360, in addition to the previously announced PlayStation 3 version. Both Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4 are based on Capcom's newly developed in-house multiplatform engine. The company was clear in its intent to continually increase its focus on multiplatform development.

Numerous enhancements are being made to the game to improve upon the already highly lauded graphical fidelity of the Xbox 360 version. Lost Planet on PC will feature DirectX 10 support (neither DirectX 10 nor Windows Vista is required), resolutions of up to 2560x1600, higher-res textures, and more detailed shader and particle effects. Capcom was sure to point out that, in the PC version, bullet holes and impact points caused by objects hitting the snow are now rendered in the game's geometry rather than with flat normal-mapped textures, leading to a greater sense of depth.

Lost Planet's PC incarnation will feature online multiplayer and downloadable content, though Capcom refrained from going into further detail on these points at this time.

By default, the game uses a standard WASD-style control scheme with mouselook, which translates over well from the dual analog stick configuration of the Xbox 360 controller. The game also includes built-in support for the Xbox 360 controller, and features fully mappable keyboard and mouse controls. Last night, the game was being demonstrated on a machine equipped with a quad-core PC and an NVidia 8800GTX video card; there did not seem to be any major performance issues.

Capcom expects to ship Lost Planet for PC this June.

Game looks pretty decent.

The ports from Capcom have been lacklustre. Hope they really do a better job.

I'd expect XBOX 360 ports to be more up to PC standards out of the box anyway.

Wonderful news.  PC owners should really run (not walk) out and get this when it ships.
This game was the reason I bought a 360 in the 1st place.

Oh the LAN play in this game will absolutely kick lots of A$$!!!

Lost Planet ups DX10 quota

Fur and Blur head new features list

By Wily Ferret: Thursday 26 July 2007, 09:38
LOST PLANET , the lukewarm PC conversion of the 360 shooter, is getting some more DX10 features to justify its existence.

The PC game, release a couple of months ago, was one of the first DX10 titles on shelves, and has seen been played to death by many high-end graphics buyers in a bid to get some use out of their shiny DX10 hardware.

Developers Capcom have gone and added in support for DX10 motion blur and for fur effects. This means that some evil monsters will look extra hairy and scary, and fast-paced enemies or action sequences will whisk past you in a blur. Crysis-style depth of field is also promised, a feature which also caused a lot of discussion when featured in the Call of Duty 4 E3 demo.

The extra effects come off the back of some extra performance the developers have pulled out of the DX10 code and hardware.

You can see preview screenshots here at Capcom's developer blog. To be fair, they do look pretty nice. Look for a patch enabling the new effects in the next month or so.

this game is another beautiful eye candylicious existence, however im not to plz with how the framerates drop drastically i certain situations and im very disappointed by this. I hav som rel highend specs that i  shame....but from what ive gathered on hardocp it
was very rough on all the 8800's even the ultra. Frames dropped to 5 fps in som instances....its not constant though but when it happens its bad.

Lets see some specs and benchies then.

I played through the whole of Lost Planet with nary a frame drop......because I didnt use Vista and DX10. Everyone knows the game is nowhere near optomised for DX10 so it doesnt make sense bothering. In any event, this is an old game, who cares abou that when there's so many good games coming.

I third that benchmark motion. Highend IWMC.
