Server advice

Hey mengz i have to procure some servers for the schools and for the office.
I got the schools one down, they gettin some dells  32 gigs of ram and 10 TB of storage and stuffers.

But the kicker is the IT department server

we decided on some apple x serve serverzs but iam undecided on the ram.

other guy wants 32 gigs of ram as well but iam undecided. i think 16 gigs is enuff for 4 quad core 3. ghz xeons but that extra 16 gigs cost an additional 19 thousand usd.

so iam wonderin  if yu guys think it would be better to get 4 with 16 gigs or 4 with 32 gigs.

is that extra 16 gigs gonna give enough performance for the money?
two of the servers will be clustered and basically the 19 thousand usd extra can buy another server with 16 gigs that can be clustered to the other 2 which i think is gonna give better performance if needed than just another 16 gigs of ram

looks like you answered your own question. I would go with your option double the performace and get some extra disk space while at it.

well disk space is not an issue, we are getting 4TB of storange on teh server and 10 TB in a raid.


the extra 16 gigs to go to 32 gigs of ram cost 19k USD
and the server with 16 gigs cost 28k or so.

he says the apps that we are gonna run are gonna press even these servers

and iam thinking that since we are clustering 2 servers, the combined 32 gigs will be enuff and if we are indeed in need of more performance, is adding another server, with its 2 quad core xeons and another 16 gigs of ram gonna be better than just adding another 16 gigs of ram to both servers

What exactly is running on these? What to you mean by press the servers? cpu? bandwidth? ram capacity? unless it's explicitly capacity, it just won't help.

The only question I have is what OS running on these servers? cause a none 64-bit OS, yuh WASTING REAL MEMORY if not...
