While testing out the AL2216W 22" Widescreen flatpanel that the capitan is always raving about (great monitor btw) I came across this little console command.

Enter the console by pressing "`" on your keyboard

Then enter the following command

 /cg_fov 80
Next up is the field of view command. FOV(field of view) is basically how much you can see on your monitor at one time. The higher the number the more you can see, which will give you a huge advantage over those who don't use this command. Default is 65 max is 80, to change it bring down your console and type "/cg_fov 80".

you can make the change permanent with the following command: seta cg_fov 80

lol @ arc.. i don't think punkbuster would see this as a cheat, it's more of a customization for user comfort. not like u gettin unlimited uav's or infinite helicopter calls..

nothing new if you want more trick check out any quake3 forums, they have all the customizations on lock. except for the speech commands i myself still trying to figure that one out.

In day of yore, messing with the FOV was considered a cheat. In the previous Call of Duty games, you could not change the FOV in multiplayer. It was hard coded. Only hacks would allow you to change it.

In CoD 4 however, you can increase it to a max of 80 in the multiplayer without angering the anti-hacking deities. There are hacks to increase it even higher but those will be picked up  by PB and get you banned.

The 80 is welcomed for widescreen users because without it, your view appears a bit stretched. Most games that allow a wide screen resolution allow a marginal increase in the FOV setting to compensate.

I don't know guys. That fov thing while cool seems to kill long range viewing distance. Am I imagining this?

doesn't affect my long range shots in the slightest (nor view) but let me explain why.

While the extra 20% visibility out of the corner of the eye doesn't hurt I'm mostly happy that my p90 looks like it did before making the switch to wide screen. It got pudgy with the increased width. Everything became a little wider.

If you're accustom to the 65 fov on widescreen then the reverse will be true for you.

That is, everything will get a little narrower. That includes the enemies head off at a 100 yard distance. lol I'll bet that's what's affecting your long range viewing distance.

Is not so much getting better as getting familiar. Knowing the "sweet spots" of the maps are key.

Still learning. Some maps I can find my way around pretty quickly and know where to get the best angles on the enemy. A few, I'm still lost like a mofo.

xfire = the healing. That's how we find each other online. Run a good session with china and ipixx the yesterday.
