I shall wait on how things develop with this "final" update and I don't like that whole other product activation module thingy. Seems a bit shady to me that the bastards are bringing this out after the great flop of Vista(yes I have used Vista and I truly think it should burn in hell)

I'm not a fanboy of updates and they tend to screw me over so until I feel insecure about security on my OS I won't be updating...

Thank God for internets yes.........and Acronis True Image 9

*sigh*

Oh yeah, and mine said v 3312.  I'm wondering if that's the final version.....

Its not. The final version does not have a version number in system properties. Look for build  5.1.2600.5512.

OK, so apparently that version was a pre-release build.  I got the proper version.  It installed without incident.
Had to change my modified boot-screen to install it though, it doesn't like those.

The only noticeable effect I've seen is that it re-enabled the firewall for all network connections.  Overall, Windows 'seems'
a bit snappier, but then, my computers are possessed of a high level of l33tness. :happy0203:

i got to ask what exactly about vista you did not like

Well let's see something that will take me a second to do in xp I had to fiddle around and look at pretty graphics when I click on something, not to mention I had to press allow like 20 freakin times!! to use a simple peripheral which vista refused to recognize.....

This same device when plugged into to multiple xp systems both old and new is recgonized instantly, no allow or permission requests crap.

So now you know why I don't like Vista.

i have never seen firefox open so quickly.

i've been using this tweak for quite some time now, and it does make a difference.

Quote
Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

    network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

    2. Alter the entries as follows:

    Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

    Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

    3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

...i've been eyeing the SP3, but i so not able with BSOD's just yet, gonna give a few days/weeks B4 jumpin in!

The version I got is the official, all-good, thumbs up version.  If you want it, check me.
You shouldn't get any problems with it.

Just in case anyone hasn't found out how to yet, you can patch the uxtheme.dll to use your custom themes in SP3 using the latest patch and a program called replacer.

It's pretty easy, you run the app, drag over the original, then when asked to, drag over the patched dll.
It makes a back up to a system folder so make sure your in an admin acct.

leave me alone i like my shiny windows :P

XP SP3 delayed by retailer glitch

Early birds may get a worm

By Stewart Meagher: Wednesday, 30 April 2008, 9:56 AM

MICROSOFT has pulled the plug on the expected release of Windows XP Service Pack 3 because of a glitch in the way it works with MS Retail Management Systems (RMS).

Anyone who jumped the gun and downloaded the update from any one of the non-official sources bouncing around the Wibble for the last couple of days should think twice before hitting the install button.

Volish minions won't say when a proper version of the update will be available, but it won't be pushed out through normal channels until Redmond has worked out how to filter downloads from RMS customers.

Neither will the B2 TLB bug on Phenom but that stopped the launch DEAD in its tracks and cost AMD millions... it's about producing a FINISHED product with QA. If you constantly let problems slide with late fixes it causes the public to lose faith in your products. And seeing as the BUSINESS sector is where their money is made it was the best course of action.

Yes W1ntry, I saw this, and was like 'meh...I don't USE that RMS app, so I safe'.

What MS also said is that they will filter the release to users that don't run RMS,
so there's nothing stopping regular-ass users from installing the thing.

Its either we want progress or we don't.  I for one do not like to have nearly 350MB
of updates to download everytime I install XP-SP2.

I totally agree. WTF cares about rms. I already went ahead and slipstreamed it into my personal XP installation cd as well as the one in work. Time saving immc.
