IBM aka Big blue has come up with something interesting.. should this ACTUALLY WORK, this would be something T&T SHOULD definitively invest in... problem would be the 'blind eye' syndrome that the corrupt protective services would undoubtedly employ...

BIG Blue boffins have flogged software to the City of Chicago that they claim can use CCTV footage to identify "suspicious activity".
Like Blighty, Chicago has been rolling out thousands of video surveillance cameras linked by fibre-optic cables. At the time officials said that the idea was to give the city's emergency response coordination agency the ability to remotely keep track of emergencies in real time.
According to IT World, it seems that they want to turn the CCTV cameras into Big Brother systems.
IBM's software can analyse the thousands of hours of video being recorded by Operation Virtual Shield recognise suspicious behaviour and alert our operations people and, at times, our crime detections specialists as to what it sees.
A similar tool has been developed by Biggish Blue called Smart Surveillance System which is a tool to fight shoplifting.
If Big Glue can get the system working, there is a large number of cities who are also interested.
Of course in Blighty, despite having more CCTV cameras than sheep, they have done sod all to stop crime.

Just like highway patrol does stop ppl from driving like maniacs? or the police stations respond to crimes IN PROGRESS just 2 houses away from the police station 4 hours later? 'check it out' right.... if anything imho it would be another way for bad cops to make money:
WAFT (Waste Ah F#$%ing Time) Cop: "So we caught you on camera shop lifting... what yuh gonna do about it?"
Criminal: "Pass yuh a bottle?"
WAFT Cop: "Our fees have gone up yuh know"
Criminal: "Um... 2 bottles and a $300?"
WAFT Cop: "Getting there"
etc
