N I MUST BE GOING CRAZY BUT

If you have just purchased 2 1Gig Sticks of DDR400 (3200) RAM <- This means that you bought the Ram then realised that you need 667Mhz & not 400Mhz.
i will trade you...


Reason: The purchasing department of the co that i work bought 2 Brand new sticks of 667Mhz DDR2 Ram for a machine that requires DDR400.
please note that the sticks were placed into the machine to boot up, when it failed THEN they called me.....

so i am trying to fix the problem.....

the trade will only be considered if the RAM is new and you have your bill...

That instantly raises several red flags.  DDR RAM has 184 pins, and DDR2 has 240 pins.  Are you sure this RAM
was not damaged by actually powering up the PC?  Is it even possible to properly seat DDR2 RAM in a DDR slot? (someone verify this please)
The notch on a DDR2 DIMM is in a different place (as compared to DDR) so I'm wondering also if there was any physical damage
done to these DIMMs as well.

Before you think about trading it, you should subject it to at least a few hours of steady Memtest86, and make sure there are no issues.

With DDR2 the notch is closer to the center. Thus it is not possible... How the hell the made it 'fit' without breaking/burning the bloody ram sticks is my guess.

Those idiots at your company  are just  the type of customers I hate: the ones who try their own thing (to cut costs) and when it comprehensively fails, then they call you to undo the damage.

On a personal note I'd rebuff them for the stupidity and tell them to go buy to correct RAM and in future not to bother me to fix their crap if they do not even going to have the courtesy of consulting with me first.

The Motherboard was PC2 Compliant so luckily no damage was done its just that the ram speed was too fast

Lol DDR2 400 support alone? That doesnt sound right. Every board supporting DDR2 can support AT LEAST ddr 533mhz. Something isnt right.

even so, isn't it possible to just underclock the ram? color me crazy but I've done it a few times...(when i found pc3200 was 100 and more less than pc2700)
i suspect you got some faulty ram, check it in another board, and run mem test on it like arc say.

did all that the ram works...
the board is from an ibm intellistation z pro 6223 41u
the board is ms9151
i checked the pdf from that website and found that it needed ECC ram
all the DDR2 ram i have is non ecc
correct me if i go wrong here but wouldn't the board still be able to boot with non ecc ram? or is it THAT specific?

Update: i came in this morning to see PC3200 ram it still does not work cause it needs ECC...<--- lol insanely
so if you want i can trade this ram
