Normally I'd be behind you guys all the way with this one. But there are a few facts that weren't mentioned in this video. First of all he had been causing problems before this (Problems = simple obnoxiousness) and had been warned before he had a chance to ask his questions. That's why the lady was ready for him when he started his rant. Secondly, he was bigger than every cop there (not his fault) and was asked to simply leave and let Kerry answer his question. Once he refused to sit down, after asking several questions, they began to forcibly remove him. You can see in the video that his handcuffs were not on. They were only able to get one hand in the cuffs so he was definatly fighting back. it was then that they tazered him after several warnings. This is my home town and as much as I hate to say it (because i just hate cops) the police around here are not that bad. I've never heard of any other police brutality accounts in all my years here. If the guy would've asked his question and let the crowd think about his meanings than he wouldn't have had this problem. And the bigger issue about him being warned was that he knew exactly what he was doing. He went into this headlong. Good luck to him, but theres a better way of getting across a message.
John Kerry just lost ALL points with me for not doing anything....I hope the student sues the police for that ish
okwhat part exactly, was he protesting??protesting is NOT ILLEGAL!!! but when yu get violent then that is illegal.once again, the guy started asking questions and making statements.none of which are illegal or roudyhe started off by saying, mr kerry you reccomended a book to us, i would like to reccomend a book to yu.illegal? how??then he proceeded to ask kerry why he just gave up on the election.Illegal? how?then the police started escorting him away.he proceeded to ask them WHAT HE WAS BEING ARRESTED FOR!!and not one of them answered him!they also did not read him any mirander rights!WHICH IS ILLEGAL!!asking a question in ANY TONE is not illegalspeaking IS A GUARANTEED RIGHT UNDER THE FIRST FREAKING AMMENDMENTso they were infringing upon that right of his.this case will probably turn into a civil rights case, since they infringed upon his ammendment rights.they were wrong.
Who is Phoenix? Is it possibly Grim in disguise?? LOL
Man Tasered at Kerry speechBy The Associated PressArticle Last Updated: 09/18/2007 02:17:55 PM MDTUniversity of Florida student Andrew Meyer struggles with University Police as officers try to remove him from a question and answer session with Sen. John Kerry on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, in Gainesville, Fla. (Independent Florida Alligator | Andrew Stanfill)Gainesville, Fla. — A university student with a history of taping his own practical jokes was Tasered by campus police and arrested after loudly and repeatedly trying to ask U.S. Senator John Kerry questions during a campus forum. Andrew Mayer, 21, spent a night in jail before his release this morning. His attorney, Robert Griscti, did not return messages seeking comment. Videos of the Monday night incident, posted on several Web sites, show officers pulling Mayer away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University. "He apparently asked several questions — he went on for quite awhile — then he was asked to stop," university spokesman Steve Orlando said. "He had used his allotted time. His microphone was cut off, then he became upset." As two officers take Meyer by the arms, Kerry, D-Mass., can be heard saying, "That's alright, let me answer his question." Audience members applaud, and Meyer struggles for several seconds as up to four officers try to remove him from the room. Meyer screams for help and tries to break away from officers, then is forced to the ground and officers order him to stop resisting. As Kerry tells the audience he will answer the student's "very important question," Meyer yells at the officers to release him, crying out, "Don't Tase me, bro," just before he is shocked by the Taser. He is then led from the room, screaming, "What did I do?" Meyer was arrested on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace, according to Alachua County jail records, but the State Attorney's Office had yet to make the formal charging decision. Police recommended charges of resisting arrest with violence, a felony, and disturbing the peace and interfering with school administrative functions, a misdemeanor. Orlando said university police would conduct an internal investigation. "The police department does have a standard procedure for when they use force, including when they use a Taser," Orlando said. "That is what the internal investigation would address — whether the proper procedures were followed, whether the officers acted appropriately." Meyer was ordered released from jail today on his own recognizance. Meyer has his own Web site and it contains several "comedy" videos that he appears in. In one, he stands in a street with a sign that says "Harry Dies" after the latest Harry Potter book was released. In another, he acts like a drunk while trying to pick up a woman in a bar. The site also has what is called a "disorganized diatribe" attributed to Meyer that criticizes the Iraq war, the news media for not covering the conflict enough and the American public for paying too much attention to celebrity news.

Meyer was in line to ask a question of Kerry when it was announced by Ambassador Dennis Jett, a University of Florida political science instructor and the forum's moderator,[1] that no more questions would be taken. According to a statement later released by Senator Kerry's office (see below) Andrew Meyer was "barging to the front of the line." Meyer was then recognized by Kerry to ask a question. According to The Washington Post, Meyer's question turned into "an increasingly agitated three-parter."[2]Meyer spoke for approximately 1.5 minutes, beginning by citing the book Armed Madhouse and its author Greg Palast's description of the 2004 U.S. presidential election and allegations of election irregularities.[2][3]What Meyer was referring to, according to Palast, was a chapter in the book [Armed Madhouse] called “Kerry Won. Now Get Over It,” in which he says millions of votes cast in the 2004 election were discarded, not counted or prevented from being cast in the first place–a fact the author says has special relevance to the locale of Meyer’s arrest.[1]Andrew Meyer's exchange with John Kerry was captured on several videos distributed on the web.YouTube Video,"UF Police Taser Student During Kerry Forum"0:00 on YouTube videoJohn Kerry: [Finishing the answer to the previous question]: "...to continue to pile name upon name upon some wall in the future for a strategy that has failed. That's the distinction."[Recognizing and pointing to Andrew Mayer]: "Sir..."Andrew Meyer: "I first and foremost want to thank you for your time. You spent a lot of time talking to us here today.Thank you for coming and being open and honest. You'd recommended a book to us earlier.I had wanted to recommend a book to you. It's called Armed Madhouse by Greg Palast.Kerry: "I have it."Meyer: He's a top investigative journalist in America."Kerry: "I've already read it."Meyer: "AND, [holding up a copy of a yellow book, "Armed Madhouse" by Greg Palast],he says [in this book] YOU WON the 2004 ELECTION!Kerry: "Right."Meyer: "ISN'T THAT AMAZING! -- ISN'T THAT AMAZING, YOU WON IN 2004!In fact, there were multiple reports on the day of the election of disenfranchising of black voters in Florida and Ohio."Kerry: "Right."[Police officer interrupts Meyer]Meyer: [Turning to police officer]"I'll ask my question. Thank you very much. I'll ask my question. I'm going to preface it.He's been talking for two hours, I think I've got two minutes.Thank you, Thank you very much."Meyer: [Turns to side] "I'm going to ask him my question. I'm going to inform people then, I'm going to ask my question,so there were multiple reports of of disenfranchising of black voters on the day of the election in 2004."Kerry: "Right."Meyer: "There was also voting machines, electronic voting machines in Volusia County, Florida that tallied backwards. So, amidst all these reports of phony, bogus stuff going on, how could YOU concede the election on the day? [small applause]How could YOU concede the 2004 election on the day?In this book, it says there were five million votes that were suppressed and YOU WON the election. Didn't YOU want to be President?[responding to ?]I am not even done yet, I have two more questions."1:21 on YouTube videoMeyer: "If you were so against [the war in] IRAN,how come you are not saying let's IMPEACH BUSH NOW? ,IMPEACH BUSH NOW before he can INVADE IRAN? Why won't you IMPEACH HIM? IMPEACH BUSH.CLINTON was IMPEACHED, for what, a BLOW JOB? Why don't we IMPEACH BUSH? Alright?"Meyer: "Also, are you a member, were you a member of Skull and Bones in college with BUSH?Were you in the same SECRET society, as BUSH? Were you in SKULL AND BONES?"[turns to side]Meyer [with sarcasm or irony]: "Thank you for cutting my mike. Thank you.Are you going to arrest ME? EXCUSE ME, excuse ME, what are you arresting ME for?"1:45 on YouTube video[4]After speaking for one minute and twenty seconds, at the request of event organizers, Andrew Meyer's microphone was turned off, and two University of Florida police officers seized him.[5] Several members of the crowd began to cheer and applaud. This physical contact by the police occured 1 minute and 31 seconds after Meyer began speaking. Kerry said, "That's all right, let me answer his question."[2] The student struggled for several seconds[3] and demanded to know why he was being arrested. He shouted several times "Help!", "What have I done?", and "Get away from me!", with his arms raised in the air, visibly struggling with the officers. Two more officers joined in, and the four officers forcibly removed him to the back of the room as Meyer struggled, once even breaking free. The officers wrestled Meyer to the ground and managed to handcuff one hand.As Meyer requested he be allowed to leave of his own accord, they informed him that he no longer had a say in the matter and threatened several times to tase him if he did not comply. Meyer requested that he be allowed to leave.[3] Meyer yelled,[2] "Don't tase me bro, don't tase me", but was drive stunned (referred to in the police report as a "contact tase") in the shoulder by officer Nicole Lynn Mallo with her department-issued X-26 Taser when he failed to comply.[6]I managed to take control of Meyer's right hand and restrain it into one side of my handcuffs. Due to Meyer's erratic flailing, the inability to attain Meyer's left arm from his resistance, and increased potential for injury with one cuff on, Sgt. King attempted to deploy a contact tase to no avail. He then instructed Mallo to apply a contact tase to gain compliance in order to place Meyer's left hand into the other cuff. Mallo gave verbal commands and informed Meyer that he would be tased if he did not comply. Once Mallo applied the tase, Wise assisted Meyer's left arm to where I was able to apply the other cuff. Once he was restrained, he was escorted out of the Auditorium where I checked the fitting and applied the double-locked function on the cuffs.—Police Report, Statement of Officer Pablo De Jesus, Jr. [6]He continued screaming for help as the officers removed him from the room. During the altercation, Kerry urged everyone to calm down, joked that "Unfortunately, he [Andrew Meyer] is not available to come up here and swear me in as President" and kept speaking to Meyer's question, which he referred to as "very important". Senator Kerry later released a statement saying that he was unaware that any Tasing had occurred until afterwards.[3]POLICE [in background]: "GET DOWN!"Senator Kerry: "I think if everybody just..."POLICE: "DO IT NOW!"Senator Kerry: "calms down this situation would calm down. ... I'll answer his question.Unfortunately, he is not available to come up here and swear me in as President.Andrew Meyer: "Why are they arresting me? Did someone do something here? Are they arresting?"Senator Kerry: "Let me just say. because it is a very important question.—YouTube Video Tape starting at 2:34 [4]Meyer was then escorted off the premises, remaining uncooperative with police during questioning.[7] He was detained overnight in the Alachua County Jail.[8] Some students protested outside the jail that evening.[9]
