Shoppers ignore woman dying of stab wounds.
« on: September 02, 2007, 07:00:51 PM »
If there was any doubt in your mind with regards to my utter disdain for humanity....

Quote
Shoppers ignore dying stab victim

The family of a stabbing victim who lay dying on the floor of a US convenience store as shoppers stepped over her body and took photos before calling for an ambulance has described their behaviour as "cruel''.

LaShanda Calloway, a 27-year-old mother of three who had dreams of becoming a model, was attacked with a knife inside the Noori Convenience store in Wichita, Kansas, on June 23.

The attack went largely unreported until Mark McCormick, a reporter at The Wichita Eagle, discovered that security camera footage of the incident showed shoppers wilfully ignoring the dying woman.

"The video showed the 27-year-old Calloway struggling to her feet and collapsing three times without anyone helping her,'' McCormick reported.

"Worse, one woman who stepped over Calloway four times while shopping eventually paused to snap a photo of her with a cell phone.

"And now, police are trying to track down photos of a dying Calloway that someone told them had been posted on the internet.''

Emergency service officers were eventually called to the store and Calloway was transported to hospital but she was unable to be saved.

Calloway's aunt, Sherry, told Kansas television network KAKE that her family was appalled by the shoppers' behaviour.

"It was bad enough that she lost her life, and for someone to stand around and gawk and want to take pictures of a dying person ... it was cruel.

"It wasn't funny. It wasn't cute. Why would anyone want to stand there and take a picture of someone dying? I don't have any understanding of that.''

Sherry said the youngest of Calloway's children "won't [get to] know her mother'', who had dreamed of becoming a model, loved to cook and lived for her children.

Wichita police spokesman Gordon Bassham told The Wichita Eagle: "This is one of the most disgusting examples of disregard for life I've ever seen. It is a very, very tragic video to watch. It was revolting to see this lack of humanity.''

Rashid Kazia, the owner fo the convenience store,  said today he was not working when the attack occurred but had seen footage of it.

"I was not here. I see the video report. Two ladies is bothering each other. After that ... one lady brings the knife from the car. She tried to make a war for her, like a fight, and she [was] wounded and they left.''

Asked what he thought of the behaviour of the customers who ignored the wounded Calloway, Kazi would only say: "I do not know about that.''

Two suspects have been arrested in the stabbing. Cherish M McCullough, 19, was charged with first-degree murder.

Another suspect, who turned himself in a few days later, had not yet been charged on Tuesday, according to the Sedgwick County prosecutor's office.

 :shakehead:

Good GOD. Know what makes this a serious pain in the ass, though?

Ponder on this for a while, because this whole thing is like a lop-sided coin flip.

Obviously, on one side of the coin, you have some people in dire need of being repeatedly bludgeoned by a stale porkchop. Who in the blue f*** watches a woman dying of stab wounds, and immediately sees fit to snap pictures above calling for help? You have to be some callous, heartless bastard and/or b**ch to do something like that, and I seriously think that such people need to be run over a runaway Arawak chicken van. Let's see how they like it when nobody helps them when they're crawling all over the place holding on to their entrails.

On the other side, you have the police bawling, "WHERE ARE THE GOOD SAMARITANS OH GAWD" when the law in general has made it so that if anybody had stopped to help this woman up, they'd be hit with lawsuits up the rectum, especially if said Samaritan happened to accidentally grab a certain area, or even happened to be African American. In other words, the law has made it a virtual pain in the a** to even think about helping somebody. Screw you American legal system, for entertaining all of those frivolous lawsuits and making people afraid to do good out of fear for being sued for it. As far as some people are concerned, you've destroyed the good Samaritans, and nobody up there wants to do s**t anymore.

The reason I say lop-sided, though, is because I'm more with the first opinion, than anything.

Lol @ liquid sig.

Good god @ that incident. All those who took pictures without clling for help should be shot, buried, dug up, and shot again. That's the beauty of a shallow grave.

Seriously! Come on...

The law is an @ss as well too for that same reason Neo pointed out about being crimanalized for helping out...but STILL, as a HUMAN (I'm kinna wondering about that), for God's sake, at least call medical help BEFORE ASAP!!! Geez.

ummm hmmm......how to put this ...
Gambitt you are right in some regards...you're answers.... rational, no body could fault u there. But sometimes you have to forget about all the rationale and just be HUMAN ...just sometimes.
I jus find it sad that wanting to take a pic, or fear of a lawsuit should overide the inherent urge to help someone in need.
I mean someone stepped over the lady 4 times...someone stood up and took a pic. No spin doctor in the world could justify that. That sh*t is just not right, just not human.

Okay.....fair enough. Just a little ribbing from me is all there is to it.

Now, on topic......you know, this sort of thing makes me damn scared to head on over to America, now. Knowing that you could fall down dead and nobody would dare to come near you to help isn't exactly a very comforting thought. As a matter of fact, what do you need to do should something bad happen to you? Shout:

"Please....HELP! I won't sue!"

.....as a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure that line would work up there.

That lady who snapped the photos of LaShanda after stepping over her a few times.....that, in my opinion, is just being a whole new breed of a**hole. Let me guess.......here's a woman dying and bleeding over there, but WHOOPS...those would make some great shots for your Livejournal, now wouldn't it?

As a matter of fact, those pictures wouldn't do her a damn bit of good.
I can't imagine showing pictures like that to people and not getting some person ticked off enough to want to shove a wooden stake through my chest for it. Even on the Internet, she'll get seriously hazed for it, and probably even sold out.

Then again, you never know.
The lady who snapped the photos might have been a member of the KKK, and she took those photos to show off with. That's probably one lone instance where she won't be unceremoniously knee-capped for being such a pri-

.......well, you get the idea.
