AutoPatcher = Dead, thanks m$...

Sad day

Today we received an e-mail from Microsoft, requesting the immediate take-down of the download page, which of course means that AutoPatcher is probably history. As much as we disagree, we can do very little, and although the download page is merely a collection of mirrors, we took the download page down.

We would like to thank you for your support. For the past 4 years, it has been a blast. Unfortunately, it seems like it's the end of AutoPatcher as we know it.

Comments are welcome...

Antonis Kaladis

For those who aren't in da know, AutoPatcher was a great offline collection of updates that allowed you to deploy alot of post SP2 updates (as well as updates for other M$ software) without having to go through the M$ update BS. A great time saver has been lost.

F--k you, m$.

Autopatcher has proven VERY useful to me when doing over customer's machines. Saves time as opposed to waiting for hours for all the updates to 'feel to' download.  I had the version that covered 2K and XP updates up to May 07. Guess I lapse to get the Vista version...

F***K YOU, MICROSOFT!!! YOU SUCK BALLS!!

and F***K WINDOWS ME II (aka Vista)!!!!

i wonder why they doing this, i mean aside from being techno-rapists, does this affect their profitability? i mean the updates kinda useless without windows, right?
wonder if the fellas who did it would go rouge and distribute it via bittorrent kinda like vuze for updates

no doubt part of their WGA movement.
Auto Patcher helped a lot of people not running WGA to get updates.
Now without Auto Patcher, it's gonna be a lot of jumping through hoops to get those Knowledge Base patches. Either that, or running wga hacks.
All of which adds up to a ton of hassle that a lot of people won't want to bother with.
solution, buy a legit copy of windows and run the automatic updates.

If you're not on the net, you're not at high risk. If you are on the net, then the patches download silently in the background. Sure that's not ideal for say a dial up user on a 50 hour package but that's the dish that Microsoft is serving.

Autopatcher was a brilliant solution to an obvious problem. If MS is gonna shut them down, one can only hope they will come out with their own WGA version of autopatcher. That is, a month to month roll up of KB patches that can be downloaded and applied en masse. (don't hold your breath)

^^ true...and with Vista sales not meeting projections, they must be looking to bridge the gap by selling more copies of XP. Well at least the current versions are "acquirable", but the question is if they will continue to release future updates. I hope so.

M$ dont care about that. That is your business. They dont even see the wisdom in doing a similar project, because after all, THEY are the ones who release sh1tloads of updates regularly.
