Impressive. At stock speed too. I would have to OC the snot out of my e6600 just to break 10K in 3DMark06.
I guess I've been pwned again.
The power of quad-core eh.....

Why go quad and bottleneck it with (by today's standard) sub par 667 ram. 800mhz should be your baseline speed.
@ Arc. 2 spots down in 5 days? I'm sure youre smelling an upgrade

What better timings can you expect from DDR2 ram?
I know one should try to use 1T Command Rate. But what else should be the aim for RAM timings...
EDIT: I just saw some 3-3-3-10 memory, but it was only DDR2 667
DDR2 800 memory has speeds like 4-4-4-12

You can get DDR2-800 RAM with
CL4
timings, but it a tad pricier than the
CL5
.
At least, at the time it was. Now its just a few dollars more.

Good lord I must've dropped to 14th or something now (
somebody please make an official update of the rankings thread before the weekend is out!)
....
I'm definitely ordering an X2 6000+ this week, followed by level OC in that biatch with my-most-powerful-HSF-on-GATT... and I just fiddled with atitool this morning...

OMFG!!!!!
I ordering a Q6600!!! G0 stepping tho lol!
just for the record the Q6600 can easily oc to 3.2ghz in our temps on air! and as for the ram timmings 4-5-4-15 ddr2 800 is a good compromise over 4-4-4-12 ram price wise.
Ya Sax man you and me both may not be on the top 10 after saturday lol!

Using the ai booster software (being too lazy to fiddle with the bios myself) and the stock hs & fan,
i did a 20% over clock
q6600 @ 2.875 GHz
GPU 8800 gts @ 580 & 900 (stock)
RAM at 799
3dmark 06 :- 11872
Results in the pic, will try to cross 12k later

Over clocking nowadays seems to be only about getting the highest synthetic score. I guess that isn't too bad after hearing arcman's point, but personally, i think it was supposed to be buying the cheapest (or most cost effective) CPU and getting it to run with the big dogs. That is what "Unknown" did. 75% and stable on air is amazing. That's what its about so big respect to you son. You could teach me a few tricks and we'll see how far this thing can go as a group. a Real team effort if you will. Perhaps we should add a category that also judges the percentage increase and cost savings as opposed to the 3dmark, meaning unknown is still the current champ.
If could do 75% with this (which is impossible without some elaborate cooling contraption) just think of the possibilities.
Don't hate, Congratulate
12k mark crossed and
and i toned it down a bit arc, my bad

That said, you STILL went and bought a quad-core CPU. Your tone is somewhat condescending.
As more powerful parts become
cheaper, we want that. Quad-core CPUs used to cost upwards of $1000 US, so now they're affordable, so that kinda puts your 'most cost effective' argument in perspective eh.
Quad-core is now VERY cost effective. More and more apps being created are now multi-threaded, including the very 3DMark06.
Of COURSE its about high scores dammit. Thats the reason we OC to begin with. Futuremark has a website dedicated to this,
and please don't take our comments literally. Its geniune appreciation, so just accept it and chill.
Oh yeah, and good job. Your rig is truly 'Crysis-worthy'.

Nah Arc, that wasn't my intention. if it came across like that, my apologies to u and everybody else . I just felt that anybody with a big enough wallet can make a high score but what you and the other guys achieve requires true skill and u should get the respect. I will choose my words more carefully next time.
. And thanks.

You know, I was checking some dude's scores online with the q6600 and 8800gts combination and their results were similar to what seecarr's getting. It really makes you wonder just how much power these 8800's really have. When done right, they actually beat the 8800gtx!!! Good stuff. Btw do you have the 320 or 640mb version? I cant remember if you saaid it already but what clocks have you gotten it to run at?
About the e4400, its overclockability is truly amazing. In the era of the Mobile Athlon cpu where I used to get 5/600 mhz overclock, I was amazed then. But THIS chip is just...hmmm. But against a chip with twice the cores, it cant hold a candle when it comes to multithreaded performance. My next build will most definately include a quad.

Just finished the first half of my upgrade. Arcman, you set an impressive standard. its gonna be hard to beat with a B3 stepping on air but it would be interesting to see just how far i can go
