Toshiba flogs laptops with wireless docking
Ultra wideband for Americans with money

TOSHIBA HAS started flogging a range of laptops that can connect wirelessly to a docking station that can support an external monitor.
It is one of the first applications of ultra-wideband, or UWB, wireless technology, which allows data transfer speeds far faster than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
UWB has limited range and the laptops have to be within three feet of the docking station and they are legal only in the US.
But if you are from the US and do not want to move far from you desk this could be the technology for you.
The technology has been put under the bonnet of Toshiba's R400 line. They cost $3,079 and double as Tablet PCs.
You have to shell out $500 for the docking station, or port replicator. This includes four USB ports, an audio port and an Ethernet port. A non wireless docking stations from Toshiba only cost $180.
Charlie had a look at the gear at CeBit in March but Toshiba was keeping quiet about the price.
