and CORE 2 QUAD FOR $266 US!!?  Well, LOOK who gettin a Quad-core CPU this year.

All the prices quoted above take effect from July 22nd 2007.

Based on the article, it seems that the E6850 at the same price as the Q6600 ($266 US), but at a higher clock-speed. (3.0 GHz vs 2.4 GHz respectively)
is the better performer at gaming.  All other performance results leans towards the Q6600.

The E6850 is a good choice, but multi-core is the future, like it or not.  I'm sure that the Q6600 will VERY EASILY OC to 3.0 GHz.
FOUR cores vs two, for the SAME PRICE!!?  Oh you bet your A$$!!!

  building a system for my bro using the bottom end Core 2 duo chip for like 120 USD.. Plan to upgrade to quad core when i have the money and the price comes down a bit..

 Quad core would be a better investment than the high clocked model,  High clock won't increase you have an 8800GTX running without anti aliasing..  Quad core will make the difference  soon as Alan Wake and many new games promise to use it.... Plus you can always overclock the quad core easy.

i moved out my house for renovations. the place i in have no phone line, tstt will take forever to install one, and refusing to give us evdo.

FSB speed is the difference crixx. The original e6600 was a 1066 FSB whilst the newer 6750 is 1333MHz.

Looks like another price-cut is in the works.  A small one though.

Affects only four SKUs

Intel will cut the prices one more time in almost one month from today. It will adjust the prices of three CPUs and it will introduce the new one. E2180 will show up on that date and will be available for $87.

To make some space for 2.0 GHz 1 MB cache FSB 800 E2180, the E2160 will drop from $87 to $77. Celeron 430 based on Core 2 Duo and FSB 800 and 512 KB cache will drop from current $50 to 45 and Celeron 420 will drop from current $40 to $35.

The other CPUs won’t change its price and this might be the final date when Intel calls off the price wars.

With all these cheap-a$$ CPUs on the market now, 2007 is certainly a great year to build a new system.
