NAT between two routers
« on: June 27, 2007, 04:21:50 PM »
i am trying to use Nat on a ss 4200 adsl modem connected to a wbr 1310 wireless router. The problem that i am having is that when ever i enable Nat on the ss i cannot access the internet, only way to get net is to use NATP. I know using bridge mode is a possible way of fixing my problem but i would like to know if their is another way i could do this.

What's the problem using NATP? (NATP is effectively Port address translation) which you necessarily need to use for multiple internal hosts to connect to the internet. What are you hoping to accomplish exactly? The Wireless sits BEHIND the SS and you have the WAN port of the Wireless connected to the SS right?

I think you are looking at the wrong place... meaning there shouldn't be LAG due to having PAT vs. NAT. The LAG is more than likely introduced because of something else.. say WIRELESS? What are you using to connect (PC/console) to the internet? are you using a wireless adapter to connect to the router? or a direct connection? more details would prove useful. Also what device/devices are connected?

yeah it is actually NAT, because before i upgraded my firmware using NAPT i would get lag but wen switched to NAT Play was lagless, so yeah it is NAT, but this new firmware won't allow me to have intenet access through NAT. If i need to go back to my original firmware anyone know where i can get the tstt firmware, don't really want to go through tstt cause they wilol just waste my time.

If you're going to use NAT, then only 1 device will be able to sit behind the modem as it will translate everything from 1 host. Perhaps you should try using NATP with an exposed host or redirected services. If you give us more details (eg. what game, console, etc) we may be able to help you out more.

Are yousure its the new firmware stopping you from not getting access using NAT?

Essentially what you're saying is that it doesn't work when you do IP translation but it works when you're doing port translation. Give us the IPs you have on each interface.
