ATI/Nvidia GPU Physics not as good as Ageia's

Not even close

AN ANONYMOUS games developer claimed that ATI, Nvidia on GPU physics is not even close to what you can get with Ageia's Physics card.
He tried to implement the physics and said that to his horror he learned that ATI and Nvidia "cosmetically" affects the physics. The developer added that only Ageia can handle game play physics. The same level of physics quality cannot be achieved using GPU physics, and even high end cards such as X1900 XT or 7900 GT cannot handle it.

If you want to use 3D particle water spray or wave ripples, you need Physics do to it properly. This is a real shocker as ATI and Nvidia did a lot of PR about how well they can handle physics.

This will likely change with DirectX 10 hardware and software, but for the time being you'd better hold your breath before buying a second or a third graphic card to handle the physics. While Ageia is much cheaper and faster, however, it seriously lacks software support. This is Ageia's real Achilles' Heel. µ

yes the Ageia card CAN handle gameplay physics... but if you DO make gameplay physics THAT complex you will need a dual core or a physics card to run it, locking out alot of potential buyers for that game if it is released anytime soon... And if you wait long enough , dual and quad cores will be commonplace... which will do more than a good job at the same physics Ageia does.. and probably cost less!
Ageia needs to lower the cost of their cards dramatically if they want mainstream acceptance ... and i still eh buying no bloody physics card .

Crunch time nears for Ageia Physx

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 launches today

By Theo Valich: Friday 13 July 2007, 07:43
AGEIA IS PUTTING a lot of hope on latest tactical mega-hit from Ubi Soft, a title known as GRAW2. This game was developed by GRIN, developers of Ballistics and first GRAW - so action is guaranteed.

This latest title from a line of Tom Clancy games brings an additional level of reality by incorporating special Physx level called Ageia Island, available only to owners of Physx cards. But this is far from over as far as Phyc support is concerned, since developers implemented Ageia's Physx SDK (Novodex/Meqon), physics engine across the whole game.

Developers promise an additional level of reality in the game, environmental effects, "persistent destruction" and debris. If these effects take off, it may mean that year after its debut, PPU concept is finally starting to pick up, with a dozen titles coming before the end of this year.

The game is now available in shops offline and online. µ
