well JK fixing them now depending on the error code. We fixed about 8 of them so far, seems keeping the system cool is still manditory as running at room temp alone with no cooling is asking for trouble still.

The clamps and thermal paste are the issues.

I was hoping to buy one sooner or later....

They should really address this retarded issue...

I got the red lights in February. Took it up with me on a trip in April, Microsoft covered shipping and repairs. Got it back within a week after I sent it in. I was impressed overall with their level of service. I hope this does not happen again but there will always be a certain % of failure with these newer devices, this ain't no atari 2600 we talkin bout :p

Just last week one UK-based repair company refused to continue fixing faulty Xbox 360s due to the high number of machines coming in which rendered excessive losses for the company.

Microsoft representatives were not immediately available for comment when contacted by GamePro.

July 5, 2007 --Microsoft Corp. today announced that it will expand its global Xbox 360™ warranty coverage. Any Xbox 360 customer who experiences a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights will now be covered by a three year warranty from date of purchase. All other existing Xbox 360 warranty policies remain in place.
As a result of what Microsoft views as an unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles, the company conducted extensive investigations into potential sources of general hardware failures. Having identified a number of factors which can cause general hardware failures indicated by three red flashing lights on the console, Microsoft has made improvements to the console and is enhancing its Xbox 360 warranty policy for existing and new customers.
Microsoft stands behind its products and is taking responsibility to repair or replace any Xbox 360 console that experiences the "three flashing red lights" error message within three years from time of purchase free of charge, including shipping costs. Microsoft will take a $1.05 billion to $1.15 billion pre-tax charge to earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 for anticipated costs under its current and enhanced Xbox 360 policies.
"The majority of Xbox 360 owners are having a great experience with their console and have from day one. But, this problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologize," said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices Division. "We value our community tremendously and look at this as an investment in our customer base. We look forward to great things to come."

For any customer who has previously paid for repair expenses related to the three flashing lights error message on the Xbox 360 console, Microsoft will retroactively reimburse them.

yeah but until they actually fix the problem u will still have to wait a long time before u get it replaced and the new one can still be faulty. Id say even if u an xbox fanboy buy a wii or ps3 and wait till the 360 has been dealt with. If u cant afford another system u should wait until its fixed lol

Bloodwar's last post makes about as much sense as a cock flavoured lollypop. First off, ppl that RMA their Xbox 360 get it back relatively fast (in the developed world at least which is where most of their sales are). Secondly a FANBOY wouldn't defect to the competition and lastly if well based on the points i've made there is no need to address his last comment on waiting...

well ive seen people report waiting a month or so for replacement xbox360 just for it to crash again and i dont think a month is relatively fast i think its rather slow given that u payed for a working product. And if u livin in trinidad good luck with getting that thing back fast. Id rather wait for a well working product than have my console die on me 4 times and have to wait for replacements.

Can you provide #s on how many ppl have been waiting for their replacement? and what method they used? (there is a difference between sending it to MS and replacements policies of Retails outlets like Bestbuy, CompUSA etc). I've seen reports where one person had 13 failures of his 360 and each was replaced within a week. So as with everything its the numbers that have the say. As for T&T as Cowquad is well aware, if you have a failure, you best bet is to check JK entertainment for repairs as his was repaired and returned in a week's time I believe which for T&T actually ain't half bad.

aight i wouldnt mind waiting a week the report i saw that it took a month was on ign or one of those gaming sites. But WTF 13 times!? Id be pissed lol imagine u in the middle of a good game and it happens and u have to wait a week to start back playing o.o THA horror! Tha Horror!

Another solution to this problem ( microsoft would love this one ). Is buy 2 360's and if one shuts down use the other one lol. but... the save files grrr anyway a week aint bad unless your 360 died 13 times lol.

The majority of RROD issues with the 360 are heat related. That doesn't affect the HD. You could just take the HD out and put it in the new one and all ur info would be good to go. Of course the problem with that is the fact that when you send it back you send everything. Now what MS should do (if they don't already, I have no way of knowing) is if they'll just take the unit alone, then fine. You keep your HD and they send you back the Xbox Base and yuh good to go, no re-downloading, no re-playing. Its that simple really.

I can confirm that Microsoft gives specific instructions on how to return your 360, on the phone and a printed sheet in the return box they mail to you. They warn you to only return the 360 console, no cables, no hd, no games, nuthin, else you may not get back those extras. It is simple really, they want a fast turnaround and are only working on repairing defective units. For example when I sent mine in they got it on a Friday, by Monday it was already on its way back to me with a tracking number. If that isn't fast I dunno what is.

Is there a manufacturing defect? Probably, but what other piece of electronics equipment do you know of that gives you an automatic 3 year warranty and free shipping for FREE repairs.

if the product is defective they would have to give that warranty or face losing many customers its not really a matter of choice. Glad to know u dont send your HD though so if u followed my plan buy 2 xbox 360s and switch hard drive when one dies lmao ( microsoft will so love this idea, more consoles sold lol ). But why isnt this manufacturing problem fixed yet? if its heat related shouldnt they know how to fix it? im not an xbox fan but i know alot of people who are and if my lil cuz 360 died hed be so pissed lmao.

They said they identified some of the problems any real news on this?

The problem is the CPU and video... not a problem with their performance but rather the fact that they generate alot of heat. Their efforts to resolve the issue ftw is using better cooling solutions in the RMA devices. However the real fix apparently will come when the GPU is shrunk to 65nm process which it is supposed to be soon. Until the 65nm shrink, unfortunately I think they will be plagued with these problems,
