Need For Speed: Pro Street
« on: May 31, 2007, 12:00:06 PM »
EA is gearing up for the full unveil of its new Need For Speed multiplatform racer. Gone are the canyon-races of Carbon and in comes a new focus.

Need For Speed: Pro Street has got nothing at all to do with FIFA Street. In fact, if you look closely the trailer doesn't even say it's actually called Pro Street, but we know it is because there's a scan of a Polish mag doing the rounds with 'Need For Speed: Pro Street' on the cover.

The trailer doesn't give too much away, as the full reveal is expected to land on May 31; possibly even earlier if people can transcribe the Polish magazine's article. But look closely and you'll see crash damage alongside references to trading paint, which looks to be the big new feature for the series. Could Need For Speed be getting a little more serious and taking on a simulation approach?

The focus of the title remains a mystery but we're banking on it featuring track and street racing. Track racing because the trailer shows a car on a track and street racing because it's called Pro Street. See what we did there?

Need For Speed games usually blitz every gaming system around at the time of release, but from the first footage released, it looks to be taking on a next-gen approach for Xbox 360 and PS3. they're definitely not GBA graphics...

nfs taking a more simulation approach?? umm what the heck was nfs 1/2/3/4/5 ??? doh get me wrong, it's always had a strong 'arcade' like feel in certain respects, however as far to PC racing goes nfs is simulation. The physics are not GT level but DEFINITELY NOT PGR either (definitive arcade style). nfs 5 porsche was more a simulation than any other from the perspective of realism and attention to detail even if the tuning is not GT level. Sure the Underground, MW, etc gave it more arcade feel but trading paint and car damage were in all the other and to a lesser extent the latest flourescent variants. Hmm.. well I look forward to it as i'm an avid racing game fan.

Ok if u have played the past installments of need for speed this one is a major shocker. Ea announces the worlds first Street Racing Sim. Everything is customizable from the looks to the intercoolers and such. Sounds Just like before? Definitley not Ea has announced that each part will have its own effect on the car, if u want to install that new spoiler you would have to sacrifice some speed for that extra grip. They have made it so that its pretty impossible to use your drift car for drag races due to the high level of upgrades and the fact that each part makes the car run differently. The graphics are amazing they even added some real courses for you to race.

Think im crazy? full story here http://ps3.ign.com/articles/793/793085p1.html this is the ps3 story but  it should be available on Xbox360 as well.

Whether or not this works out on the first try EA has unleashed a monster with this one i know im getting it.

I dont think any of the other nfs games were simulation i think they were far from it. They used real cars but the cars in previous versions didnt drive much different with the tuning and stuff like go into oncomming traffic to refill nos tank please that sucked. This is a simulation when upgrades actually make a big difference calling the old versions of nfs a sim is a joke. Although i did like them dont get me wrong, Most wanted was by far the best. I think this is a great idea i cant wait.

Wait??? how does NFS UG constitute as old nfs? Have you even EVER played NFS5 aka Porsche unleashed? or NFS4 Hot pursuit? yuh know with REAL car damage that would WRITE OFF the car if you worked it over too much? dude, NFS (the OLDer ones as I KNOW IT not that neon derivative of a Vin Deisel movie) was simulation buddy or at least as close as you get on a PC (well other than Collin McCrae which is simulation to the core), check yuhself.

i had both hot pursuit and porsche unleashed and they were good but i didnt consider them because they were very far back lol. I was comparing to underground and its arcade style crap and most wanted and such. Given that their werent much u could do to affect cars performance in older games i wouldnt consider them simulation but i have no objections if u think they sim. But im comparing to underground 1 +

Really and truly the old NFS were sims because each car handled differently and as close to real life as permitted by the computing power of the time. If you think about it most people compare driving sims to Gran Turismo because it set a new standard for racing and driving games. But if you equate changing parts to get better or worse performance then a well known sim Flight simulator that had no upgrades or parts to change would have to be considered a arcade flyer.
