overheating acer laptop
« on: May 05, 2007, 12:22:32 PM »
now i before i start i know that it isn't a hardware problem cause my lappy works fine when i running vista.
any how after a clean install of windows xp sp2 on my laptop my laptop cant run for more than a few hrs without overheating i already know the cause of the problem but i cant seem to find a solution. them acer people give me some kind of jacked up sp install that don't work so i had to borrow one from on of my friends. then their queer site seems to have no solution to my little heat related problem and the driver cd that i got does not really have anything use full on it for some reason. does any one know a solution?

I can't be sure but rom what I understand you said  the problem is sp2 supplied by acer. Overheating problem in your case would most likely be due to some process(s) taking up all your cpu cycles. The machine *should* be able to keep cool enough  under the most strenuous circumstances, so u might want to check to see if dust clogging up the vents or something.

good point, that and the slim possibility that the HDD may have a cache problem (causin the CPU to work over-time)

its a driver problem, this is a known problem with acer laptops when converted from vista to xp, there will be drivers that come with vista which control the hardware of your laptop, these drivers will not be in xp u will have to dl them directly from acer

I was having a problem close to this but the acer that I was servicing was overheating with vista on it.....I recently took off vista an put on XP wit SP2 but the problem lessened significantly.......I didnt get enough time with the laptop inorder to fully assess it and figure out what the problem is.
But just as a thought anyone here thinks a laptop cooling pad will help to significantly reduce this heating. BTW if so plz post a link to what ever product you quote from.

Thx in advance.

you say it reduce when you put on xp...  my overheating start when i install xp from a regular disk. and stop when i install vista. then it was a driver issue but now i runnin vista full time and the overheating return which leads me to believe that my vents got clogged and i can't seem to find a guide to disassemble as Acer Aspire 1360. anyone know one?

Check to make sure that nothing is blocking your heat vents.

If AMD, install the AMD C&Q driver.

Most Acers have the same basic chassis, so what works for one may ork for all.

Input your pc model number in Google.

ACER must have the appropriate drivers.

Do you get the problem in ubuntu or other live Cd?
