For the wrestling buffs or former wrestling buffs that don't know Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and his son Daniel were found dead today in their Atlanta home.

WWE.com reported the story moments ago on their website. Benoit, 40, missed a Saturday night house show and last night's pay-per-view in order to return home to Atlanta.

PWTorch.com can confirm through sources that Benoit's death is real and not part of a worked WWE storyline.

WWE has announced plans to scrap tonight's scheduled "Vince McMahon memorial" storyline on WWE Raw, and will address Benoit's death on the program.

It's ironic that they dedicated 3hrs to a mock Vince Memorial only to have a legitimate future legend pass away. I also in the back of my mind think that he could have killed them himself and then took his own life.

Regardless of that thought  one of the best wrestlers ever has now kicked the bucket.

R.I.P Chris ..You will be missed

Just... I don't get it, though.

How did they all die? It's jarring.
What can you do to end the hunger?
It's no surprise that many will die with the coming shortage of food
When there is no grain to feed the butchered cows
When there is nothing to feed yourselves...
Then you will see that money can't be eaten.

Damn. This really sucks. I can't help but think that the whole incident screams of murder.
I swear, first Eddie, and now Chris? The Radicals must be cursed, or something. =(

R.I.P. Chris Benoit.

I also in the back of my mind think that he could have killed them himself and then took his own life.

It's funny that you should mention that. The police are now looking into that possibility too, and are treating the incident as a murder-suicide.

Personally, I refuse to believe that possibility. Chris Benoit was just not that type of person to pull that kind of weak bull***t off.
I happen to believe that suicide's a permanent end to a temporary problem, and to even think that Chris could do something like that? Unbelieveable.

And I don't, either. To me, Chris Benoit's the type to laugh adversity in the face. I mean, come on. It's toothless aggression, for crying out loud.  :shakehead:

EDIT:

Quote

Sources in the Fayette County Police Department are now working under the theory that Chris Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, son Daniel on Sunday, and then killed himself earlier today.

Benoit was found dead in his weight room. Nancy was found dead in the lving room. Daniel was found dead in his bedroom, accordig t an unnamed source in the department.

Lt. Tommy Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on the scene," but didn't specify what those were or where they were found. Pope said the department was not actively searching for any suspects outside the house.

Benoit's death part of a double murder-suicide
Written: June 25, 2007According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

Chris Benoit Strangled Wife, Smothered Son, Hangs Self, Report Claims
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Jim Roberts
Jun 26, 2007

Chris Benoit investigation - A new report claims that WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) professional wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife on Saturday, and then smothered his son in his bed a day later on Sunday.  The report comes from the newsroom at TMZ.Com.  On Saturday Benoit was supposed to participate in a "SmackDown" show in Beaumont, Texas; however, he was a no-show at the event.

According to a ring announcer, Benoit did not attend because of "personal reasons."  The Internet Web site WrestlingObserver.com later reported that Benoit had a "family emergency" and had to rush home.

***

WWE officials were unable get in touch with Benoit, and on Monday afternoon they asked the Fayette County Sheriff's Department in suburban Atlanta to check on him.  When deputies arrived at Benoit's house at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday, they found the bodies of Benoit, his wife Nancy, and his son Daniel

TMZ is citing several Atlanta-based law enforcement sources on the details of the grisly scene.  One source told TMZ that Benoit was texting friends during Sunday's WWE "Vengeance" Pay-Per-View program- possibly watching the show with his son, who may have been alive at the time.

***

According to sources, Benoit then hanged himself Monday in a weight room inside the family home. A police investigation is ongoing.

Benoit was a great wrestler and a good friend to many, but it's hard to mourn a guy who commits suicide after murdering his entire family. i will reserve my opinions of him until everything is confirmed though.
