Got the Silver Arrow today...

My GOD its big.  I put it next to a cellphone to get a sense of scale.

Methinks there are going to be clearance issues. :(

Of course motherboard will have to come out (for installation), so is weekend for that.

Look at the size of that mofo. Maybe i'll bite when I upgrade from my now venerable i7 and Core Contact Freezer cooler.

T'will be interesting to see the numbers, that monster vs your current.

OK...so I couldn't wait till weekend...

The installation of the heatsink itself was surprisingly straightforward, and rather easy,
but this thing is so BIG that I had to take off the rear fan so that I could reach the CPU
8-pin connector and the motherboard screw close to that position, and then re-attach the fan
when the heatsink was secured.  Of course, in typical Thermalright fashion, that fan was an
absolute PAIN IN THE ASS to re-attach once the heatsink is in the case.  Memories of the Ultra-120 Extreme
installation suddenly came flooding back.  :(

Notice the overhang of the 1st RAM slot?  Yeah...that pretty much denies the use of more Corsairs.
So if I ever want to upgrade to 12GB, I have to get all new normal-height RAM.  Bummer, but no biggie.

...but it was all worth it.  Idle temps are about 4 degrees cooler than the Noctua NH-U12P, but where this
HSF really  shines is the load temps.  Preliminary tests indicate that load temps are a full TEN DEGREES COOLER!!!  :awesome:
...and thats not at stock.  The CPU is OC'ed to a modest 3 GHz.  I shall do some more testing at 4 GHz after a few days,
when the TIM should have 'cured' enough.

So far...I'm VERY impressed.  Cooling efficiency is head and shoulders above the Noctua NH-U12P.

Thermalright take back the crown for real yes.  :happy0203:

I used a brisk 5-run session of LinX 0.58.  You done know how LinX have no respect for CPUs and HSFs.

At 3 GHz, idle temp is 34C, and load temp is 55C.

Holy crap. by comparison, my cpu is at 3.5, 79degrees load temp!!!

Though my cpu seems to need a bit more juice than yours, thats bloody impressive!

I say get the H70 if space is an issue.  The main reason I decided to get this was because I knew it would fit in the case.  Anything less than a full tower, and is problems.

Thing is though, I think this cooler actually does a lil better than the H70, especially at load temps, where it matters most.  The obvious caveat is the bloody size of the thing.  The difference is about 2 or 3 degrees at the absolute upper limits, and CPU speeds over 4 GHz, so if you not running a 24/7 overclock at that speed, the H70 might be a better bet.

...but keep in mind the H70 a lil more expensive (but I think you already knew that :)).

yeh dread....  i see that already..

well the h70 with 2 real high flow fans shud de real decent..the fans dey test it at sent 65cfm through the fins push and pull

with 2 silverstone 110cfm.. i think i can make it cool better.. and with the 3 180mm fans in the silverstone raven02... has to pull in fresh air... i think i stand a chance to make my i7 9#0 clock where i want it...

i have more than enough space for the silver arrow on the classified board was well..and its gonna be far from my gtx 4#0 cards..

i think the silver arrow has it over the h70 at 4.0ghz by 4-6 degrees on load right?

Well I tell you...Thermalright has really crafted a monster of a HSF here yes.

Consider this test I did last year at 4 GHz...

Take special note of the max temps, and the CPU idle temp (red icon in systray).  LinX takes its temp readings from
Everest, and records the temp of the hottest core (usually core 0).

Now take a gander at this test I did just now...

Yeah...just about 10 degrees difference all round.  That is a TREMENDOUS improvement...especially at 4 GHz.
To say that I'm impressed is putting it mildly.  The Noctua NH-U12P HSF is an impressive HSF in its own right,
but these new results have me going 'gad-DAMNNNN'.

Arcmanov Approved.  :icon_thumleft:

So what, you gonna keep stroking that thing or are you gonna come and sweat some game?

But seriouslt, GG that thing is friggin huge. I may very well consider getting one of those closed loop no maintenance water cooling setups next rounds yes. The size of dem ting getting redic.
