recent price drops particularly in the ram have me rebudgeting
seeing if i really cant get that bd burner in there lol

but this customs story scaring me now...if i spend 15k+ on a rig and they wanna vat me... then steups rebudget again

Even though its two 4870 GPUs on one physical card, the driver still reads it as
two distinct GPUs connected via Crossfire.

For some reason, Crossfire seems to be broken from driver revision 8.11 onwards.
Its getting a bit ridiculous now. I will do a fresh re-install of Windows Vista x64
on this new rig to see if the problem is really with the driver, or if something in my current
rig is just not agreeing with Catalyst in its present form.

The Q9650 I recently imported was charged $45.00 VAT, and THAT cost $334 US...

...so HOW DE F@#K A CPU COSTING $270 US
WILL NOW INCUR A $226 VAT CHARGE!!?

Yes, that is exactly what happens in there!! I used to work clearing goods in customs for a skybox company.

Clerk and officer examine a package, if they see no invoice, the customs officer asks the clerk, "Gimme a value." The clerk with his knowledge (or lack thereof) of the current market value of item gives some arbitrary value, and the officer goes with that. Customs can even disregard an invoice's declared value of an item and use their own value and charge accordingly.

In the short 6 months I worked in there I seen camouflage handbag get pass through right under the officer's noses. I still wondering how I only get charged TT$350 VAT+Duty on two iphones the other day (and one was the 3g version!)... not that i complaining

Got the CPU this morning. Haven't got the HSF as yet. Won't get that till Wednesday next week actually.
I'm itching to get this rig up and running...and the CPU did come with its own HSF eh....

*strokes chin*

...but then I'll have to remove the mobo to install the Noctua HSF, which can be a kinda headache sometimes.
I wish this case had a hole in the motherboard tray just underneath where the CPU would normally reside,
so installing an aftermarket CPU backplate would only involve removing the other side panel.

* sigh *

Oh well, a few more days can't hurt.

So, here's the total breakdown so far:

MSI X58 Pro => $197.91 US + $264.30 TT (all fees) = $1521.03 TT

Intel Core i7 => $269.99 US + $332.95 TT (all fees) = $2047.39 TT [worst case

]

Corsair 3 x 2 GB => $105.50 US + $178.90 TT (all fees) = $848.83 TT

Which works out to $4417.25.
You can use the above prices as a guide when ordering. I purposely left the HSF
out because its not absolutely necessary if you plan on running this at stock,
but where's the fun in that?
