For those of you with newer Asus motherboards (P5Q series):

INSTALL EXPRESS GATE NOW!!!

It is VERY BOSS!!!

For those of you unfamiliar with Express Gate, its a modified Linux distro called Splashtop,
which boots in about 5 seconds, and contains a modified Firefox browser, Skype, and even a
multichat client.  Even as I post this from within Express Gate, I'm also chatting on MSN as well.

It may seem like a gimmick, but if all you want to do is check email, and browse the internet without
the OS overhead, then its great for that.  Now I can download drivers and such to fix Windows when
it playing up.

ARCMAN APPROVED!!!

lol...nah, its not THAT robust, but its Linux, so I'm sure some l33t-hax out there
has already figured out how to take it apart for something like that to work.

Not much is required for remote proxies like logmein, basically just java (for linux based) and ActiveX for windows. Express Gate is a quick and easy, so it's possible if java support is included or added that it should also work.

Latest benchmark run...

3.5GHz is the absolute highest that the Q9300 will achieve without some serious liquid cooling on the CPU
and northbridge.

Ah well...this OC is danger territory anyway on air, so its back to 3GHz for normal operation.

Thanks...but no thanks.  Them all-in-one kits not uber enough.
I would need something thats modular, and expandable.

Eventually I want to be able to cool the Northbridge and GPUs, as well as the CPU.

A good watercooling setup to do that is a few thousand dollars, for about 100-200 MHz more?  Not worth it.

My LAN rig has evolved rather nicely over the last few months, and this is its present incarnation:

MB:   Gigabyte EP45-DS3L
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (B3 stepping) @ 3.3 GHz
RAM: 4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer, DDR2-1066 (5-5-5-15)
GPU: (Diamond) ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB @ 750 MHz memory/900 MHz core

Of course, here is the obligatory benchmark:

Yes, thats the same Q6600 I got way back in mid-2007, before it became everyone else's new hoss.
What's interesting to note here, is that the Thermalright Ultima-90 thats on the CPU now, is actually performing better
than the lapped Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme I used on it at that time.  Remember this little experiment?
Load temp on this biatch is 43C at 3.3 GHz, which is actually better than my Q9300 (which idles at 40C) that loads at 55C at 3 GHz.  Of course,
the lapping of the CPU heatspreader has a lot to do with this.  Ask daniboy what he REALLY thought when I agreed to let him proceed with this. :laughing7:

I actually have that cooler on my Q9550 and it runs pretty cool. 31 degrees on minimal load, and 36 degrees when gaming. My system temps range between 28 degrees and 36 degrees. I have the HD4870X2 on its stock fan, but that thing runs at 45 degrees with the fan set to 50%. Of course I suspect my Cooler Master HAF 932 case has something to do with the good airflow...

Nice, I might actually consider it for the 2009 project. . . TBA

And, Arc, I thought it was Vista64 you were running?

Thats on my main rig.  Because of some software and hardware issues, I decided to use 32-bit Vista
on the LAN rig.

Nope...Amazon.com is meh hoss.
Cost about 1800 TT in all, including all shipping.

Its expensive, but its worth it.  Its a beauty, and not to mention, an absolute joy to work in.

I can import if for you if you want (for a 'small fee' of course :happy0203:), but for such a large
item you'll definitely have to gimme all da money up-front.
