Ah yes, I was thinking Core Contact Cooler... XD Hmm that may mean that at some point at least 5 men on GATT will have the same cooler. Yes I am considering it though it scores marginally better than my Xigmatek on frostytech. It's the benefit of orientation that is attractive to me since my cooler pushes the air up into the PSU due to its orientation. Question Capn, the HSF does it overlap with ANY of your RAM slots by chance? Red you could prolly provide feedback on this as well? because I am also considering high profile memory which currently is blocked by my HSF.

LoL ok. Yes it's a big@$$ cooler and as you can see in the pics of my rig I have high profile OCZ Reaper ram and they're in DIMMS 3&4 i.e. those furthest from the cpu.

The fan hovers over the first two mem slots so if you wanna full up all slots you would have to get low profile ram.

Yes, that's the core contact freezer that I used on the q6600. I just picked up a retention bracket for the i7.

What re says. It all depends on the layout of the board you have and the height of your RAM. In my present config, all slots are free and clear from the HS and fan so I can put any type of memory in there. On the ohter hand, the fan covered the first ram slot. Now my ordinary corsair xms memory was short enough that I just had to remove the fan, plug in the mem and replace the fan. If I had used one of those dominator sticks tough, I probably would not have been able to use the first slot.

Hmmm...don't have that problem with the Noctua.  Even with the fan, its still clear of the slots.
Its a shame that most reviews of a particular board and/or HSF seem to miss this critical piece of info.

As each board's design is different, someone would have to try the cooler on all of them to see the results...which I dont see happening.

Ok, so I just got around to doing a bit of heavy tweaking and managed to achieve complete stability at a whole .1 of a volt less. Not bad for a night's work.

Dare I say THIS is the standard by which stability should be tested.

Small upgrade time: More memory than you can shake a stick at...

My second 6gb kit came in today bringing the tally up to 12gigs.

I wish myself luck trying to put a dent in this.

For some strange reason now, with the current BIOS I'm using, I just can't get my mobo
to boot with all six slots filled.  Works like a charm with 3 slots though.

Could be the RAM modules themselves but I tested each one (yes, all six)...one at a time
with Memtest, for several full passes, and not one of them showed even a hint of problems.

Yet another reason I want to get that Gigabyte mobo.

All in due time.

Well look at that.  I'm on 7.3, and there's been SEVERAL bios revisions since then.
The new 8.xx revisions all contain SLI support too, so no more shenanigans.

The board seems to be able to handle all 12 gigs but I had to relax my overclock. Looks like I have to do a WHOLE brand new session of tweaking ad testing.

Bios update successful, but no-dice...still having the same issue.
Funny how it worked before when I was using the SLI board's bios.

Yep, then I started having mucho issues, so I reverted to the board's proper updated BIOS,
and since then, no dice.  The system just keeps power-cycling when all slots are filled.

Its not an uncommon issue.  Just another in a long line of issues for this particular mobo.

Ah well, I actually won't 'miss' the extra 6GB, but it was certainly nice to have.

hmmm that's interesting. While the extra 6 gigs means that I have to totally re-tweak settings, im running with the 12 gigs quite comfortably on the latest bios. Doing stress test on 3.5ghz now.
